Six Streaming Shows to Binge Watch During the Snowpocalypse

By on January 22, 2016

As snow piles up outside this weekend, you should really break out the hot chocolate with the little marshmallows and get your streaming binge on while you still have power. As Snowpocalypse 2016 blankets your driveway with a few feet of snow, we’ve put together a list of must-watch shows that will take you from the first flakes all the way to the sad melting snowman attempting to survive under the bright sun.

Here are out top picks for Snowpocalypse 2016:

1. Master of None (Comedy / Drama)

master-of-none

Tapping the comedic talents of Parks & Recreation Aziz Ansari, this original Netflix show follows the professional and personal life of Dev Shah, a 30-something actor in New York City. Sprinkled with shades of Louie and Curb Your Enthusiasm, the show is extremely well-made and very entertaining. It’s also a quick show to binge watch with 10 episodes, each around 30 minutes in length.

2. The Man in the High Castle (Drama)

While this show take a few episodes to really start moving, The Man in the High Castle (Amazon Instant Video) is the perfect show for anyone that likes alternative history dramas. The show’s timeline assumes that the United States lost World War II, losing the East Coast to the Germans and the West Coast to the Japanese. The show focuses on two young characters that have been tasked on tracking down propaganda films for the mysterious Man in the High Castle.

3. BoJack Horseman (Animated Comedy)

If you happened to skip over BoJack Horseman in early 2015, this is the time to revisit it. It’s an insanely funny animated show following the life of BoJack Horseman, a washed up actor that lives off his past glory in a 90’s TV sitcom. BoJack is voiced by Will Arnett (Arrested Development), who does a phenomenal job bringing the self-absorbed BoJack to life. There are currently two seasons on Netflix with a third hitting the streaming service in 2016.

4. Making a Murderer (Crime Documentary)

Making-a-Murderer

You probably can’t browse through your Facebook feed without seeing a mention of this documentary. Ideal for anyone addicted to the ID channel, Making a Murderer is a ten-part documentary that explores the life of Steven Avery. Avery was a man exonerated for the crime of sexual assault and attempting murder in 2003, but sent back to jail for the murder of local female photographer in 2007. Many Americans are questioning the legitimacy of that conviction due to the questionable actions of the sheriff’s department.

5. The Wrong Mans (Action / Comedy)

While this is definitely an older show, it’s often a show that people have missed. Streaming on Hulu, the Wrong Mans is a hilarious tale about two idiots that get caught up in an enormous criminal enterprise and have to stumble their way to freedom. It starts James Corden of the The Late Late Show as well as Mathew Baynton (soon to be featured in NBC’s You, Me and the Apocalypse). There’s also a season two of the show, although it’s not as strong as season one.

6. Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street (Kids)

Once the kids have exhausted themselves sledding, throwing snowballs and creating massive snow forts, fire up Amazon Instant Video and let them watch Gortimer Gibbon’s Life on Normal Street. It’s a charming story about three kids growing up on a street that’s anything but normal. The humor is great for kids and adults may actually enjoy some of the storytelling. It’s one of the best kid’s shows on any streaming service at the moment.
