Have you heard all the hullabaloo about Boxed.com raising $100 million this month? Attempting to attract the same customer that would pay for a Sam’s Club or Costco subscription, Boxed.com is a site that lets customers purchase a curated list of popular items in bulk for prices that are cheaper than buying in small quantities at stores like Walmart or Amazon.

Here’s everything you need to know:

Can I shop on Boxed.com for free?

Yes. There are no subscription fees required in order to get access to items listed for sale on Boxed.

Is Boxed.com supposed to be cheaper than Amazon, Walmart?

In a way, yes. You just have to purchase a large quantity of an item. For example, the largest box of Cinnamon Toast Crunch cereal goes for 19.4 cents an ounce on Walmart and 28.5 cents an ounce on Amazon. However, you can snag it for 15 cents on ounce on Boxed. You just have to purchase 49.5 ounces of the cereal; roughly 2x the size of the giant size box at Walmart.

Is Boxed.com supposed to be cheaper than Costco, Sam’s Club?

Specifically on price? No. Boxed.com is slightly more expensive than a traditional warehouse club. However, when you factor in the value of your time as well as the cost of gas, the value of Boxed.com shines though as a superior option as it relates to convenience.

Do I get free shipping from Boxed.com?

Possibly. The first order ships completely free, as long as you meet the $29 minimum. Future orders require a minimum order size based on a user’s location. If the minimum order size isn’t met, shipping costs will be roughly $6 to $10.

How long does shipping take?

All orders will ship within 1 business day of being received, as long as the shipping address is within the contiguous United States. Standard shipping (UPS) takes roughly two business days to reach a customer.

Does Boxed.com offer any type of cashback program?

They offer a rewards program called Boxed Rewards. The standard rate of rewards is 1 point for every dollar spent, however promotional rates will offer more points per dollar spent from time to time. 500 points will convert to a $5 gift card to spend on Boxed, basically a one percent return.

Does Boxed.com have a mobile app?

Yes. Boxed got it’s start by focusing on orders made through either the iOS or Android mobile apps. While you can pop out to the Web to place an order any time, ordering through the app is arguably simpler and ideal when doing some shopping on your lunch hour.

Does Boxed.com offer online coupons?

Yes. While codes change from month to month, Boxed usually offers standard 10 percent off coupons. However, if it’s your first order, look for 20 percent off coupons or coupons like $20 off an $80 purchase (which equates to 25% off). Just do a web search for “Boxed.com coupons” to find the latest offers.

I’ve ordered Planters Mixed Nuts and Cashews at the same price as Sams Club. The shipping was amazingly fast – Las Vegas to SoCal next day! But a lot of the nuts are badly broken up. My only experience with Customer Service was really bad. Boxed.com targeted me on Facebook with a Sponsored Ad for 20% off the Cashews. I went to order and the price wasn’t reduced. Customer Service said it was an IT issue. That’s it; no offer to facilitate the deal for me. I then used a tactic that has helped me with other companies who are unresponsive: I liked them on Facebook and then sent them a nice message explaining the problem. They said to order the product, send them the order number through Facebook message and they would apply the 20% discount before charging my card. They did. Facebook is powerful! No company wants you to post negative experiences on their page.

I’ve been ordering from them for about a year and I love it. Their Mobil app is easy to use.
I emailed them once because a bag of cereal inside of the actual cereal box had a hole in it. I asked for a credit and got a polite response apologizing for the inconvenience. And I did get a credit.
    I’m happy with them.

I have ordered twice from Boxed. So far, I really like it for items that I dont need right away. My first order, my free samples were 2 different bags of chips, both of which were opened and obviously stale. I emailed to let them know, not asking for anything, since they were free, and someone responded right away and credited my account 2$. Some items are a little higher in price, but again, keeps me from running to store!

I have ordered from Boxed.com twice. First order was fine. Second order, NOT FINE. I was shorted one item. I have repeatedly e-mailed them for the past few weeks and have yet to get any response. Looks a little shady to me since thete is also no number that I can call to talk to them. Really?

Their prices are not good enough to put up with the hassle, you can get the same products at Amazon.com or Walmart.com. or half a dozen other sites online

My first order went well, the food was fine and shipped quickly. My second order got cancelled with no reason given. Their system cannot link me to the address given. I ordered for a business address with the business credit card. The order is shipping to the same address as the card billing address, but the Boxed.com system cannot tolerate a name that doesn’t match. They asked me to send a utility bill to verify the shipping address.

The only time I got a quick reply to an email was when I cancelled my account. They didn’t seem surprised.

I wanted to send groceries to my kids in college. Boxed.com will not let you ship to someone else. If the address on your card does not match your shipping address, they cancel your other. You have to ship to yourself ONLY! They will re-instate my order if I send a utility bill. Imagine if every online store asks for this before shipping a gift!!

    I am a fan of boxed.com.

They have saved me from trips to costco that are impossible to do in NYC. I’ve never had any major issues only minor. They sent the wrong flavor in something that I ordered, but I emailed them and the problem was sorted out pretty quickly.I appreciate that they are cheaper than amazon for bulk goods.

I have ordered weekly from Amazon. I also order from Vitacost, Jet, Petfood direct, and others at least once a month. I placed my first order with boxed a few days ago. My order came in an very oversized box. Most of the items were heavy – laundry detergent, seltzer – I also ordered a box of kosher salt. It was busted open. There wasn’t any salt left in the box. It was all over everything else and ended up all over the living room carpet.
First of all the only packing material was on top of the box. The items in the box did not have any any sort of packing material in between them. The packing slip did not have an e-mail address or a phone number. If you go to contact us on the website it brings up a box that says first link your accounts. Once again no easy way to contact them and no phone number. I found a phone number on the internet. I called it last night and it said to leave a message. It did not even tell you when someone would be in the office. I tried again this morning and once again no results.

This is the worst customer service I have ever dealt with – because there is no customer service. I would never order from them no matter what kind of discounts they offered.

I have had the same experience with boxed.com. I only order paper products through them because of the bad packaging job they do. What good is it saving money on the other stuff if it comes damaged and you have to go through the process of making a claim.

Horrible company! Didn’t receive my order and every time I try to contact them, I get no response. They don’t even have a customer service number. Beware!!

I’ve used Boxed several times, and love it! Saves me a couple of trips to Costco.
