Starting last year, Amazon has continued to offer a bonus credit when trading in an old Amazon device (or related devices from other brands).

Amazon is offering the largest discount on Echo devices, specifically 25% off on the purchase of a new Amazon Echo, Echo Dot or Echo Show. In order to qualify for the discount, you have to trade-in older Echo devices.

For instance, a 1st generation Amazon Echo in good condition will get you $25 back in a digital gift card as well as a 25% off coupon on a new Echo device. You could go from 1st generation to 4th generation for roughly $50, which is half the cost of the 4th gen Echo speaker.

You could also pursue a large discount by trading in a third gen, Echo Dot for $5 (ideal for anyone that took advantage of the Echo Dot for $9 deal last year) and use that 25% off discount to get $62 off the new Echo Show 10.

Beyond 25% off on new Echo devices, Amazon is offering 20% bonus discounts for trade-ins across a barrage of categories:

Regarding trade-in value, Echo devices appear to offer some of the better trade-in values while Fire TV devices off the worst. But if you were planning on upgrading anyway, it’s going to be worth it for the additional discount.

Two things to keep in mind to save even more money:

1. The % off discount is automatically applied in your cart when you purchase the new device through midnight on November 30, 2021. That means the discount will be available during Prime Day as well as Black Friday & Cyber Monday. You may save even more money by waiting for additional sales on your new device.
2. Watch for bonus % back offers on the Amazon Prime Visa card. The base is 5% back, but Amazon likes to offer additional discounts on Amazon devices during Q4. Potentially, you could save up to another 20% by using that specific credit card during checkout.

Already Active: Best Buy

Best Buy has been relatively quiet this year. Last year, Best Buy announced a competing sale one week before Prime Day. This year, radio silence. On Sunday, they launched “The Bigger Deal Savings Event” which is expected to run through the end of Prime Day on June 22.

Our assumption is that more impressive deals will roll out from Best Buy as we get closer to Prime Day, likely on Sunday. We will be listing all the best deals in the Best Buy specific feed.

Live on June 20: Target

Starting on Sunday June 20 and running through Tuesday June 22, Target will continue their trend of competing with Prime Day sales with a digital sale event. Target will be pushing out sales on electronics, home items, essentials, toys and more. 

Unlike Prime Day deals, there’s no membership required to access the discounted pricing. Target is also offering the ability to visit a Target store to pick up your purchase, assuming you prefer to get it immediately rather than wait for a delivery.

As of publication, Target hasn’t announced what specific items will be on sale. It’s possible Target will release that information as we get closer to the launch of the sale. You will be able to find all the best Target deals in our Target-specific store feed here.

Live at 7 p.m. ET on June 20: Walmart

Starting on Sunday June 20 (at 7 p.m. ET / 4 p.m. PT) and running through Tuesday June 23, Walmart is calling their sale “Deals for Days”. Walmart is claiming to offer “Black Friday savings” on categories like electronics, home, toys, beauty, and fashion. This will include online only deals as well as specific in-store savings.

Some of the announced sales include a 40″ Hisense Roku LED TV for $178, a Straight Talk A32 5G Phone for $199, a Pioneer Woman 14-pc. Forged Cutlery Knife Block Set for $40 and a HP 11.6” Chromebook 4GB RAM for $159. There will also be apparel discounts on Reebok, Champion, Skechers, Levi’s, and Michael Kors products ranging from 20% to 70%.

Live at 12 a.m. PT June 21: Amazon, Newegg & Kohl’s

Calling this promotion the Fantastech Sale, Newegg currently has a presale going that will end at when the Fantastech Sale starts. There’s zero information on the deals Newegg will be offering during the main Fantastech Sale, but you will be able to see the absolute best offers in our Newegg-specific deal feed.

Kohl’s is calling their sale the WOW Deals event. Their customers will earn $10 in Kohl’s Cash for every $50 spent on purchases, potentially offering better deals than Amazon if there’s significant pricematching.

Some of the early announced deals include the Google Nest Hello Video Doorbell for $150 (with $30 in Kohl’s Cash), the Shark ION Wi-Fi Connected Robotic Vacuum for $200 (with $30 Kohl’s Cash), and the  PowerXL Vortex 10-qt Air Fryer Pro for $100 (with $10 Kohl’s Cash). Here are the times when Prime Day 2021 & other competing sales start

Starting on Sunday June 20 and running through Tuesday June 22, Target will continue their trend of competing with Prime Day sales with a digital sale event. Target will be pushing out sales on electronics, home items, essentials, toys and more. This is timed to overlap with Amazon Prime Day (June 21 – 22).

Unlike Prime Day deals, there’s no membership required to access the discounted pricing. Target is also offering the ability to visit a Target store to pick up your purchase, assuming you prefer to get it immediately rather than wait for a delivery.

Prior to the sale, Target will be offering a 5% discount on all digital gift card purchases between June 16 and 19. Presumably, this will stack with the RedCard’s 5% cashback offer as well. For example, if you purchase a $100 Target gift card, you will be charged $95. RedCard will give you 5% back on the $95 ($4.75), which results in an overall discount of 9.75%.

As of publication, Target hasn’t announced what specific items will be on sale. It’s possible Target will release that information as we get closer to the launch of the sale. Look for the sale to go live at 12 a.m. PT on Sunday, June 20. It’s possible that Amazon will push to match those discounts when Prime Day launches as well.

Target announces digital “Deal Days” sale to compete with Prime Day 2021

On today’s Q1 earnings call, Amazon management confirmed that the company will shift the traditional Prime Day date from early July to an undetermined date during Q2 2021 (April through June). By moving away from July, Amazon avoids competing with the attention given to families traveling on summer vacations as well as the 2021 summer Olympics (which starts during late July).

Based on earlier rumors, it’s possible that Amazon will hold a second Prime Day during October 2021 in an attempt to replicate the success of 2020 Prime Day (pushed from July to October due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Of course, that may end up hurting Amazon if a second Prime Day ends up impacting sales during Black Friday in late November.

The official announcement of Prime Day’s exact date typically occurs within two weeks of the actual launch. Expect to see a press release during late May 2021 detailing the exact date and what items will be on sale. You can expect significant discounts on Amazon products such as Echo devices, Fire TV streaming sticks, tablets and Kindles.

Amazon has profited significantly during the COVID pandemic due to a shift from in-store shopping to online shopping. Amazon sales shot up 44% during Q1 2021 ($108.5 billion) and the total number of Amazon Prime subscribers crossed over 200 million. Prime is still priced at $119-per-year and recently turned 10 years old.

Amazon Prime Day is officially scheduled for Q2 2021, likely June.

Here are the times when Prime Day & other competing sales start

Starting at the same time as Amazon Prime Day on October 13, Best Buy will be pushing a 2-day sale live that the company is promoting as “Early Black Friday deals.” Best Buy promises that there will be additional opportunities to score Black Friday deals later in October as well.

Best Buy released few details on what products will be on sale. The company did note a 70-inch Samsung 4K Smart TV will be on sale for $529.99 (MSRP $749.99). Based on that information, it’s likely that Best Buy is discounting one of these two sets: (or a model not listed on the site yet)

• Samsung – 70″ TU7 Series 4K Smart TV with HDR
• Samsung – 70″ Class 6 Series 4K Smart Tizen TV

Besides the Samsung TV deal, Best Buy mentioned that laptops will be discounted as low as $119.99 (likely a Chromebook at that price) as well as a $80 price reduction on the JBL Free True Wireless headphones ($69.99 sale price). There’s also reference to “dozens” of other deals.

As always, watch both Best Buy and Amazon for price matching throughout the 48-hour period. Both stores will attempt to compete on pricing and move quickly to match discounts.

Be aware that you may be able to use contactless curbside pickup at Best Buy, assuming the retailer has your item in stock locally. Those orders are typically ready within the hour. You can also use Store pickup, if you need to do shopping in the store or delivery if you prefer to stay home entirely.

Also in this announcement, Best Buy is extending holiday returns starting on October 13. Any item purchased between October 13 and January 2, 2021 can be returned by January 16, 2021.

If you are a My Best Buy member and you make a purchase on October 13 or 14 with a “Black Friday Price Guaranteed” on the product page, you will qualify for automatic price adjustments on said item if the price falls below what you paid on or prior to November 28 (Black Friday). Best Buy announces sale to compete with Amazon Prime Day

Launching on the same two days at Amazon Prime Day (Oct 13 and 14), Target is repeating their yearly tradition of “Deal Days.” Identical to Target’s Deal Days promotion in July 2019, the digital deals will start rolling out as Amazon Prime Day kicks off.

This year, Target is claiming to offer double the total deals as last year. Unfortunately, Target hasn’t elaborated on what specifically will be on sale beyond mentioned deals on electronics, home goods, essential products, toys and items in the Beauty category.

All deals will be available through Target’s contactless Drive up pickup system as well as the Order pickup counter inside the stores. Of course, it’s likely that Amazon will over many same day shipping deals on items, thus eliminating a need to even leave your home.

After Deal Days finishes up, Target will take a pause on offering deals until November 1. After October ends, Target will offer Black Friday deals (one million more than last year) throughout the entire month. Starting on Sunday, November 1, Target will offer week-long deals as well as a barrage of daily deals.

One interesting, pro-consumer tweak to policy this year is that Target customers will be able to request a price adjustment on any item advertised as a “Black Friday deal” between November 1 and December 24. That’s significantly longer than the company’s standard 14-day window to request a price match. Presumably, customers will be able to request the price adjustment at the customer service counters in Target stores, over the phone or online using the Target chat function here.

Regarding other competitors, only Walmart has announced a competing sale. Launching Sunday, October 11, at 7 p.m. ET., Walmart will have a “Big Save” event that will last through Thursday night. The company has release zero details on the volume of deals or what product categories will be covered.

There’s also been radio silence on free shipping promotions. Typically, Target, Walmart and Best Buy (among other retailers) announce free shipping promotions for holiday shopping. We expect those promotions to be more aggressive this year as more consumers have been pushed to online shopping due to the COVID pandemic.

Target announces October “Deal Days” to compete directly with Prime Day

As detailed by CNBC today, Amazon has pushed the planned September Prime Day date to early October due to the continuing strain coronavirus has put on suppliers. Third-party sellers received an email this week that encouraged sellers to mark October 5 on their calendar as the placeholder date for the event.

It would be surprising if that’s the specific start date since it’s a Saturday. Traditionally, Prime day starts on Monday or Tuesday. Or course, that could just be a placeholder date prior to a early week start date on October 7 or 8.

Previously reported by the Wall Street Journal, Amazon was planning to shift Prime Day from July 2020 to an unnamed date in September 2020. Over the last five years, Prime Day has landed early to mid-July and extended from an original 24-hour up to about 48 hours as well as additional sales during the week.

Amazon is preparing warehouses for Prime Day by allowing third party vendors to ship unlimited inventory of nonessential products. Amazon was previously prioritizing essential products in order to meet the massive demand from stay-at-home, quarantining online shoppers.

According to a previous report, the company expects to lose up to $100 million on excess devices as those devices will have to be sold at an additional discount due to the postponement of Prime Day. September is typically when Amazon announces new products as well. During 2019, Amazon announced a large variety of Alexa-enabled products during a late-September presentation.

Prime Day is typically more popular than Black Friday and Cyber Monday for Amazon. Last year, Amazon sold more than 175 million items on Prime Day, many of which were Amazon branded items like Echo devices and Fire TV sticks.

It will be interesting to see if that trends continues. With Prime Day within weeks of Black Friday / Cyber Monday, it’s possible that consumers will hold off until the holiday shopping months. Or Prime Day could get even bigger while traditional holiday shopping shrinks.

As reported by Reuters today, Amazon is considering delaying Prime Day by at least a month. Over the last five years, Prime Day has landed early to mid-July and extended from an original 24-hour up to about 48 hours as well as additional sales during the week.

According to the report, Amazon is eyeing an unspecified day in August at the moment. The company also expects to lose up to $100 million on excess devices as those devices will have to be sold at an additional discount.

It’s likely this decision is related to Amazon’s decision to shift logistical resources to supporting the shipment of consumable goods and medical supplies over nearly everything else. 3rd party sellers are currently locked out of replenishing shipments at Amazon warehouses, thus have had to shift to finding their own logistical solutions to shipping out products.

Amazon is considering delaying Prime Day by a month or more

After a first year kickoff in 2018, Wayfair’s Way Day is back for 2019. Here’s everything you need to know about Wayfair Way Day 2019.

What is Wayfair Way Day?

Playing off the Black Friday-ish, one day sale trend that Amazon kicked off with its annual Prime Day, Wayfair is offering up a similar concept to anyone that’s shopping for home goods during Spring. In addition to heavy discounts on smaller home goods, expect to see hefty sales on indoor furniture, patio sets and other large items.

When is Wayfair Way Day?

Way Day has been officially announced for midday on Wednesday, April 10, 2019.  The deals will start on April 10 at 12 p.m. ET / 9 a.m PT and run for 36 hours until end of day on Thursday, April 11 at midnight on the East Coast.

How long does Wayfair Way Day last?

Way Day will be expanding from 24 hours last year to 36 hours this year. Expect to see short, flash sales on specific items and product categories throughout the 36-hour period.

Can anyone access the deals?

Yes. Unlike Prime Day, anyone can access the sale prices without the need for a subscription. In addition, Wayfair will be offering free shipping on all purchases, thus no need for a premium shipping service subscription.

What’s going to be on sale?

Wayfair has released a bit of information on brands that will be on sale here. Some brands included in the sale are Joss & Main, AllModern, Birch Lane and Perigold. Expect to see sales up to 70% off on home goods as well as outdoor and living room furniture.

Is there anything new this year?

Yes. Wayfair will be offering a 40% off discount on select products to anyone that uses the new Share and Save feature. This will require you to share the details of your sale on social media, likely an attempt to increase traffic to the site during the 36-hour period.

In addition, Wayfair will be hosting a live video stream called Wayfair On Air. Similar to video streams produced by Amazon, Wayfair will feature reviews of items that are on sale during Way Day, basically a QVC live stream of sorts.

How Does Wayfair Way Day Compare to Black Friday?

In 2018, we found that the majority of Way Day deals offered similar pricing to what you can find on Wayfair during Black Friday. Look for the best deals on room-specific items for the bedroom & living room as well as patio furniture. You will also find solid deals on rugs and mattresses during the sale.
