We’ve focused primarily on prices for the 65-inch models. The 65-inch size is the most popular right now, which shows the eagerness of American households to embrace bigger screens as the prices go down and the displays get thinner and lighter. TV makers are also packing their best features in this 65-inch range.

To meet the needs of consumers, TV manufacturers are making a wide range of display sizes, usually 42, 50, 55, 65, 75 and sometimes 80 or 85 inches.

Because TVs are refreshed on a yearly basis, we’re only looking at 2021 models, but you can certainly find even bigger deals on closeout 2020 models, though at this point in the year most are going to be refurbs.

Top 2021 High-End TVs

LG OLED TVs have dominated this category the past several years, but Sony OLEDs are gaining.

1. LG C1 Series OLED TVs (2021): We’ve seen the 65″ model of this amazing TV go for as low as $1527 on eBay and $1620 at Target, but realistically don’t expect it to dip much below $1700 for Black Friday. [Amazon]
2. Sony BRAVIA XR A80J OLED TVs (2021): LG’s biggest competition has seen the 65″ model go as low as $1571 on eBay, but we expect it to stay well above $1700 (probably around $1800) for the remainder of the year. [Amazon]
3. Samsung QN85A Series QLED TVs (2021): We recently saw the 75″ model go for as low as $1600 at Sam’s Club (+$45 for the membership). The 65″ model is hovering just below $1500 right now and probably will see another $100 off during the holidays. [Amazon]
4. Hisense L5 Series 120″ Laser Projector Android TV (2021): We’ve seen this awesome short-throw projector with included screen sell for $2500. It should hit that low price again around Black Friday or into December. [Amazon]
5. Samsung The Frame Series QLED TVs (2021): The 65″ model has recently gone as low as $1500, and that’s where you can expect sale prices to return around Black Friday. BuyDig.com sells it bundled with customizable bezels for a big discount. [Amazon]
6. Sony BRAVIA XR X90J Series LED TVs (2021): The 65″ model of this TV with top-notch picture quality is hovering just below $1200, and we’ll probably see most of the display sizes in this line go down another $100 during the holiday season. [Amazon]

Top 2021 Mid-Range TVs

If the high-end TVs are a little too rich for your taste, mid-range TVs have a nice balance of value with excellent picture quality and special features.

7. Amazon Fire TV Omni Series LED TVs (2021): Amazon has been very aggressive pricing its first line of official Amazon TVs. The 50″ model has been on sale for $360 and the 55″ for $410. We haven’t seen the 65″ go on sale yet, but we’ll probably see $100 off its $830 price tag (either a straight discount or gift card/credit) before the holiday shopping season is over. [Amazon]
8. LG NanoCell 75 Series LED TVs (2021): We’ve seen the 70″ model of this popular TV on sale recently for as low as $750. Expect Best Buy to get aggressive around Black Friday on all popular model sizes, like the 65″ hitting $650 or less. [Best Buy]
9. Samsung Q60A Series QLED TVs (2021): The 65″ model of this top-performing TV should hit $800 or less during the Black Friday season. [Amazon]
10. Hisense U6G Series Quantum ULED TVs (2021): We’ve seen the 65″ model go for as low as $650 and expect it to hit that price point around Black Friday. The 75″ model might get as low as $850. [Amazon]

11. Hisense A6G Series Android LED TVs (2021): The 70″ model is at its all-time low of $550 at Best Buy and you might see that move down another $50 during the Black Friday shopping season. [Best Buy]
12. TCL 4 Series Roku LED TVs (2021): Walmart recently sold a 55″ 4-Series TV for $228, which could come back for Black Friday. Other 4-Series TVs will get big discounts at other retailers during the holidays. [Walmart]

2021 Gift Guide: Top 4K TVs and How Much You Will Pay For Them

2020: A year of seismic changes. But in the world of TVs, it was a year of incremental change. 8K TVs haven’t made much inroads in the consumer market—content is very sparse and prices haven’t dropped appreciably to justify their expense. I don’t recommend an 8K TV, especially when 4K prices keep going lower and lower and, hey, 16K is already here (seriously).

If you get in lost in the technical TV jargon like full array local dimming (FALD), HDMI 2.1, refresh rate, input lag, mini-LED, QLED and so on, just remember there’s really only one thing you should know, and it is this: LG OLEDs have the best picture quality, period.

Yes, OLED TVs cost more, but if you want to be totally happy with how your TV looks, buy OLED. This year, Vizio jumped onto the OLED bandwagon and will have a 55-inch model (#2 below) on sale for under $900 at Best Buy this Black Friday (page 5 of the ad).

While OLED again leads our list of favorite TVs, there are other outstanding displays that have excited Ben’s editors and visitors alike in 2020. Our top choices this year are all 4K HDR Smart TVs with capable, even outstanding, Smart TV platforms, reducing the need for set-top streamers.

Plus, if you’re in the market for next-gen consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X, you will find excellent TV counterparts for them below. (Low input lag is your friend!)

LG CX Series 4K HDR Smart OLED TV (2020)

The LG OLED TVs have been on this list year after year because they boast the best black level of any TV on the market, and the CX Series continues that tradition of excellence. Everyone from CNET to RTINGS heaps praise on this TV.

Pros: Amazing picture, and the price is lower than its predecessor—the 2019 C9 Series OLED. Low input lag for gaming. Supports FreeSync. webOS is an excellent Smart TV platform. Cheaper price compared to previous years, with holiday discounts nudging it closer to the step-down BX series. Excellent remote.

Cons: Still expensive. No longer has DTS support. A small, but possible, risk of burn-in (shared by all OLEDs).

Vizio OLED Series 4K HDR Smart OLED TV (2020)

Vizio’s OLED Series is their first OLED TV, and it doesn’t disappoint. It has some nifty features, like supporting 4K gaming at 120 FPS, and the slick design belies its budget label.

Pros: Great price for OLED. During Black Friday week at Best Buy, the 55-inch will go down to $899! Low input lag for gaming. Variable refresh rate.

Cons: Not as bright as the LG OLED. A small, but possible, risk of burn-in (shared by all OLEDs).

Sony BRAVIA X900H Series 4K HDR Smart LED TV (2020)

The Sony X900H Series is among the best LED panel TVs currently on the market. It meets all the expectations of discriminating Sony fans and will definitely complement this fall’s hotly anticipating gaming console, the PlayStation 5.

Pros: This model has won a lot of praise for its fantastic non-OLED picture and great HDR performance. Sports the sleek, high-end Sony design aesthetic. Features HDMI 2.1 support. Gamer (and PS5) friendly: low input lag and HDMI will support 4K @ 120 fps via firmware update.

Cons: Premium Sony price tag. No HDR10+.

Samsung Q80T Series 4K HDR Smart QLED TV (2020)

Samsung’s mid-range Q80T Series acts very much like its flagship sibling the Q90T, but is a much better deal. Its fantastic Smart TV platform (Tizen) has a new feature that allows you to cast your phone side-by-side with the main TV image.

Pros: Fantastic option for gamers: very low input lag, fast response time and support for AMD FreeSync.

Cons: Design is average. No Dolby Vision.

Hisense H8G Quantum Series 4K HDR Smart ULED TV (2020)

The Hisense H8G Series is feature-rich but at a much lower price than sets from the big names like LG, Sony and Samsung. Plus, it sports a stunning design with “barely there” bezels.

Pros: Budget pricing but still has full array local dimming, Quantum dots, Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos. Uses Android TV, same as in Sony models. Low input lag for gaming.

Cons: Viewing angles not great. No DTS support.

TCL 6 Series (R635) 4K HDR Smart Mini-LED QLED TV (2020)

TCL has been a leader in budget TVs for several years, and the new TCL 6 Series (R635) does not disappoint in terms of both price and performance. It is also a delight for fans of Roku, which is still the most user-friendly Smart TV platform.

Pros: Cutting edge “Mini-LED” technology for great contrast/brightness. Roku remote with voice search. THX game mode. Plenty of local dimming zones.

Cons: Viewing angles not great.

Samsung The Sero 4K HDR Smart QLED TV (2020)

You have to give Samsung credit for innovating where other manufacturers play it safe. Samsung’s Frame TVs have passionate fans, and now the company has introduced The Sero, which is basically a regular 4K TV that sits on a rotating stand. It seems like its high price tag has gone entirely into the stand, but for some heavy social media users, this feature just might find a niche in the years to come. We will see…

Pros: When you need TikTok or Instagram on a 43-inch display. The TV will auto-rotate (depending on the app). There’s also a “rotate” button on the remote.

Cons: Expensive for its size, but we’ve already seen The Sero as low as $1K on Amazon. No Dolby Vision. No local dimming. No Ethernet. Picture quality is just OK compared to others in its price range. Dependent on a smartphone to maximize the gimmickry, and not surprisingly, Samsung phones work better with it than iPhones.

2020 Gift Guide: These Are Some Of Our Favorite TVs

Shopping for a 70-inch 4K TV this year? Or perhaps larger? We’ve looked through all the Black Friday ads and broken down where you can get the cheapest 70-inch TV, two of the cheapest 75-inch TVs and the cheapest 82-inch 4K TV.

Best Price on a 70-inch 4K TV: $549

Listed on the front page of the Best Buy ad, the 70-inch Samsung 6070 6 series will drop $350 from the $899 MSRP, matching the lowest Ben’s price posted earlier this month.

The Samsung UN70NU6070FXZA offers 4K / HDR 10+ / HLG functionality, Motion Rate 120 tech, and Samsung Smart TV interface. Be aware that this set only comes with two HDMI ports (one of which is ARC).

Best Price on a 75-inch 4K TV: $599

Only available online at Sam’s Club, this Philips 75″ Android TV (75PFL5704/F7) appears to be a set exclusive to the warehouse chain. It’s not listed anywhere else beyond the Philips site.

Regarding specs, the set offers 4K / HDR 10 functionality, Android TV for smart apps (Oreo), and 3 HDMI inputs (one of which is ARC). It does appear to be limited to 60Hz though.

2nd Best Price on a 75-inch 4K TV: $749

Beating Best Buy’s price by $150, both Sam’s Club and Costco have a 75-inch Samsung in the 6900 6 series for $250 less than the MSRP. This price seems to be common among the warehouse chains, including BJ’s.

The Samsung UN75NU6950FXZA offers 4K / HDR 10+ functionality, Motion Rate 120 tech, and Samsung Smart TV interface. Similar to the 70-inch model listed above, there are only two HDMI inputs on the TV.

Best Deal on a 82-inch 4K TV: $1,599 + $150 Gift Card

Both Best Buy and Sam’s Club will be selling the LG 82″ 8070 series for $1,599 on Black Friday, but Sam’s Club is offering a bonus $150 gift card with the purchase. That’s a better overall deal than our last price low on this set, $1,569 on eBay.

The LG 82UM8070PUA offers 4K / HDR10 / HLG functionality, Motion Rate 240 tech (Native 120Hz), Dolby Atmos support, 4 HDMI inputs and LG’s webOS user interface for streaming.

Here’s the cheapest 70-inch and larger 4K TVs on Black Friday 2019

Shopping for a 55-inch to 60-inch 4K TV this year? We’ve looked through all the Black Friday ads and broken down where you can get the cheapest 4K HDTV doorbusters as well as a couple backup doorbuster options, the best price on a mid-range model, the best price on a higher-end 4K TV and the best price on a OLED.

Best Price on a 55″ to 60″ 4K TV Doorbuster: $199.99 w/ bonus Echo Dot

On the first page of the Best Buy ad, you will find an Insignia 58″ LED 2160p Smart 4K TV that usually sells for $479. However, the price will drop $280 to $199.99 for Black Friday and come with a bonus 3rd gen, Echo Dot.

The Insignia TV offers 4K / HDR functionality, 3 HDMI inputs, 1 USB input and utilizes Amazon’s Fire TV interface for streaming video. In addition, the remote control includes a microphone for voice searching via Alexa.

2nd Best Price on a 55″ to 60″ 4K TV Doorbuster: $198

Similar to the model featured in our 50-inch guide, Walmart has the least expensive model between 55″ and 60″ in size. The onn. 58″ 4K HDR10 Roku Smart LED TV offers 4K / HDR functionality as well as 3 HDMI inputs, a 60Hz refresh rate, and the Roku smart TV interface for streaming video.

It’s possible that Walmart will only sell this model in-stores, but the online listing page could also mean limited sales of the doorbuster when Black Friday prices launch on Wed night. There’s no additional bonus the

Best Price on a mid-range 55″ to 60″ 4K TV: $279

Trimming $170 off the retail price (and $50 off the current sale price), the TCL 55″ Roku 4K UHD HDR Smart TV (55S425) will be on sale at both Target and Best Buy this year. The set offers a 120Hz effective refresh rate, 4K / HDR functionality, 3 HDMI inputs and the Roku interface for streaming apps.

I personally like this model for gaming, due to the low input lag and relatively low cost compared to other sets. The image does degrade a bit when viewed at an angle, but is excellent for direct viewing (like gaming). It’s highly likely that Amazon will price match this model.

Best Price on a high-end 55″ to 60″ 4K TV: $699

This sale has actually been going on for the entire month on Best Buy & Amazon, but the pricing is excellent for the QLED series of televisions from Samsung. The Samsung 55″ Q60 Series offers edge backlighting, motion rate 240Hz, 4 HDMI inputs, HDR10+ functionality and Samsung’s smart app interface for streaming.

This set excels at motion handling (ideal for sports and video games) and is a solid performer in the bright room in regards to reflections. We doubt the price will drop any more for Black Friday, but sets may pop up on Rakuten or eBay with pricing that undercuts the $699 sale price.

Best Deal on a 55″ high-end OLED: $1,499.99 + $450 Kohl’s cash

Featured in our favorite TV’s guide, the LG C9 55″ 4K TV is rated as the top OLED set of 2019 by many publications. I was surprised to stumble across it on the Kohl’s site. It’s currently being price matched to all other retailers, a $1,499.99 sale price point. The high end set offers 4K playback, HDR10, HLG, Dolby Vision HDR, Dolby Atmos, DTS-HD, and 4 HDMI inputs.

We have featured the set on Ben’s before at a price low of $1,149. However, this deal would come out roughly $100 better overall with the Kohl’s cash bonus (assuming the sale price holds next week).

The TV market is all about 4K now, as 1080p quietly fades into the past. The fast adoption of 4K has been spurred on by how quickly prices have fallen. Expect to see a lot of 55-inch 4K TVs from top brand names in the $400 range this Black Friday and as low as $200 for house / generic brands.

As prices continue to fall, the big brands are battling it out over high end (and higher margin) picture technologies like OLED (the best, championed by LG) and QLED (the silver medalist, championed by Samsung).

OLED still remains in a class of its own, and QLED is more or less a variation of regular LED LCD panels albeit with “quantum dots.” We might see improved variations of QLED in the years to come, but if you still want the very best picture quality on the market with the best black levels, then choose OLED, hands-down. You will still need to pay more for OLED, although sale prices for lower end OLED models are inching closer to the magical $1000 threshold.

2018 Gift Guide: The 4K TVs You Really Want

If there’s ever a time to make sure you have the best of the best for your television, it’s on Super Sunday. Not only will you want to watch — and hear — all of the collisions of players during the Super Bowl, but you’ll also be riveted to your TV during halftime and commercial breaks … something that doesn’t happen during the regular season. Consider upgrading your television with these must have TV accessories before the Super Bowl broadcast begins!

Audio

Think about the tiny speakers built into the back of an HDTV, and you’ll understand why add-on audio options are the way to go, especially when you want a great audio signal for Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl halftime show. (And if you take a secret pleasure in hearing the pin-sharp sound of the crunching of Tom Brady by a Falcons defensive tackle during the game, we won’t judge you.)

If you already have a speaker system, you may want to invest in an HDMI A/V receiver, as it will properly port the audio feed from your HDTV to the right speakers.

A soundbar is a great option for those looking to get started with a TV sound system. A soundbar system is small and relatively inexpensive, yet it provides high-quality audio.

DVR

The Super Bowl is a challenge for those who don’t want to miss a minute of the game, halftime show, or commercials. With all of the great Super Bowl food and drink available, you’re going to be tempted to walk away from the TV at some point — OK, at multiple points — and potentially miss something memorable.

A DVR gives you the ability to pause, record, and rewind live TV. If you have a satellite or cable TV subscription, you may already have a DVR provided by the company. But if you’re a cord cutter or if you don’t want to pay the high price the cable or satellite company charges for using its DVR, you can always turn to a third-party DVR option, such as a TiVo brand. Just make sure the DVR you pick can record in HD.

HDMI Cables

Make sure that your HD video and audio quality is as high as possible by using HDMI cables to connect your devices to the TV. Just don’t overpay for HDMI cables. You’ll often find that traditional department stores will charge high prices for them versus the bargains you can find if you shop around for HDMI cables. And be sure to purchase a cable that’s long enough to reach from device to device, as some cables are as short as 3 feet in length.

Smartphone Streaming Options

An option for a cord cutter is to stream the game. The Fox Sports Go app will allow anyone to stream the Super Bowl for free.

But nobody wants to watch the big game on the small smartphone screen. If your smartphone and TV brand match up, you potentially can port your smartphone’s screen onto the HDTV screen wirelessly through DLNA technology. Or if you have an iPhone, you can connect it to the HDTV through the Apple TV hardware.

Just make sure that if you have a data limit on your smartphone plan, you aren’t going to be clobbered with overage fees by streaming the game.

TV Antenna

If you’re a cord cutter, you also have the option of watching the Super Bowl for free … with the right equipment. A TV antenna will provide the HDTV entertainment options you need, as you can pull in over-the-air broadcasts from your local TV stations, giving you shows from ABC, CBS, CW, NBC, and Fox, which has Sunday’s Super Bowl broadcast.

You will need some technical know-how to connect the antenna to your TV. And you may have to buy an HD tuner, although newer HDTVs have tuners built into them. But many modern TV antennas can be set up in the attic of your home or even right next to the TV, meaning at least you don’t have to climb onto the roof and hook up one of those ugly, old-fashioned, bird-roosting monstrosities.

TV Mount

When it comes to finding TV accessories, wall mount hardware is a great choice. If you’re going to be sitting in your favorite chair for three-plus hours on Super Sunday, you want the TV to be at the proper height for viewing comfortably. Use the TV wall mount to place the middle of the screen at eye level when you’re sitting in your favorite chair.

Because flat screen TVs don’t weigh much, you often can hang them yourself, if you’re comfortable working with common household tools. You also can hire a handyman to do the work, if you want to be sure to do it correctly. Just make sure the TV wall mount you select matches the model and size of television you want to hang, as each wall mount will only work with a handful of TVs.

The Most Important Accessory: The TV Itself

If you’re ready to make Super Bowl LI the best TV viewing experience you’ve ever had, coupling the accessories above with a new TV is the way to go.

Although Fox’s broadcast will be in HD resolution and not 4K resolution, you will be fine purchasing either type of flat screen TV. A 4K TV will upscale the HD signal, allowing it to fill the full 8 million pixel count on the 4K TV, giving you a better image than on an HDTV (with roughly 2 million pixels). New flat screen TVs also offer significant technological improvements in terms of screen brightness, contrast, and color accuracy over even an HDTV purchased a few years ago.
