Use your Rakuten Points by Sept 15 or lose them. Rakuten U.S. Shop shuts down next month

By on August 13, 2020

As of September 15, 2020, Rakuten’s United States marketplace will be shutting down all operations. Located at Rakuten.com/shop, the U.S. marketplace listed products from 3,000+ retailers, including major brands like Dell and Dyson.

One of the reasons that customers used Rakuten was that each purchase included a number of points that could be spent on a future purchase, like credit card rewards. In some cases, Rakuten would offer a multiplier on the points, 2x, 3x, etc… On a large purchase, like a television, this means you could have another couple hundred to spend after your first purchase.

Rakuten Points cannot be redeemed after September 15, so you should spend those points before then. Otherwise, the points will disappear after Sept 15. Regarding accrual of new points, points will stop being added to accounts on August 19.

This change is specific to the marketplace only. It does not impact Rakuten’s Cash Back service. In addition, you will still be able to log into your account and view your purchase history.

Orders will continue to ship after Sept 15 as long as the order was placed before Sept 15. In the site’s statement about the closure, Rakuten warns of potential delays or cancellations due to coronavirus.
