Definitely solidifying his place in the Hall of Fame of Amazing Fathers, David LaFerriere has been drawing illustrations on his kids’ clear, plastic sandwich bags since 2008. Basically a fun surprise when they popped open their lunchboxes at school each day, the creative graphic designer used a Sharpie to draw robots, food, animals, fun objects and a ridiculous number of monster variations that put the Pixar team who worked on Monsters University to shame.

In an interview with Mashable, LaFerriere said, “I used to work nights at a newspaper, and I’d be up early in the morning making my kids sandwiches. I started drawing on the baggies, sort of as a way to channel my creative juices in the morning, and it just ended up sticking.” LaFerriere started his illustrations when both of his boys were in elementary school, but has continued since both sons still enjoy checking out the illustrations each day in middle school and high school.

Amazing Dad Draws Sandwich Bag Art Every Day For Five Years

If your Dad loves to whip up meals for the family, June is a fantastic month to find deals on pots & pans as well as general dishware. Why? It’s wedding season and promotions on popular registry items are abundant. Look for great deals on high quality pots & pans sets, usually in the 40 to 50 percent off range at stores like Kohl’s, Wayfair and Macy’s.

Workout Dad: Fitness Gear / Gym Memberships

If your Dad loves to go for a morning run or bike ride, June is a killer month to find deals on fitness related items. That includes sneakers as well as general apparel. Look for sales between 40 to 60 percent off from stores like Dick’s Sporting Goods and REI.

Interestingly, this is also a month when your local gym lower rates to get more memberships, specifically because the weather is warmer and more people are running outside instead of the treadmill. You can also find lots of deals on sports magazine subscriptions to ESPN, Sport’s Illustrated and Runner’s World at sites like DiscountMags.com.

Tech Dad: Laptops

If Dad’s old laptop is more trouble than it’s worth, June usually kicks off the start of back-to-school sales and that includes laptops. Look for great deals on touchscreen and SSD Windows 10 laptops in the $400 to $550 range as well as less expensive 15-inch standard laptops in the $300 to $350 range. The majority of June sales will come from the Microsoft Store, eBay, Best Buy and Dell.

Be aware that this advice doesn’t apply to Apple MacBooks. Apple generally announces new MacBooks at the WWDC conference in June, thus discounts on previous generation models usually don’t hit until late August / early September.

Garage Dad: Tools / Hardware

If your Dad loves spending time tinkering in the garage, this is a fantastic month for snagging tools and other hardware at a major discount. Look for great deals on hand tools from 40 to 65 percent off as well as power tools / combo sets between 25 to 40 percent off at stores like Sears, Home Depot, eBay and Lowes.

Outdoors Dad: Fishing Trips (National Fishing Week)

While the end of fishing season (September) is the best time to buy discounted fishing gear, June is actually the best month to plan an inexpensive fishing trip due to National Fishing Week in early June. Nearly all states run promotional free fishing days during June, excellent for anyone that wants to fish without getting a license. How to Save Money while buying a Father’s Day Gift

Created by illustrator / photographer Guilia Pex of Milan, Italy, this set of seemingly mundane photographs have been enhanced with the superhero-infused illustrations. Pex took pictures of her dad in various poses or during his daily chores and added illustrated elements from the worlds of Superman, the Flash, Batman and Spider-Man. The set shows how she sees her dad each day, just in time for Father’s Day.

Object illustrated within the photos include the Bat signal, the Batmobile, the iconic Superman chest symbol, a billowing superhero cape (much to the sadness of this fashion designer), the Justice League Mission Vision Motorcycle (oddly used by The Flash) and Doc Ock’s metal arms.

Artist illustrates her dad as a superhero for a Father’s Day gift

There have been a lot of great movie dads over the years, but (like most great real-life dads), not all of them fit the typical, “ideal” father figure role. In honor of Father’s Day this Sunday, here are some of the best unconventionally awesome movie dads of all time.

Herbert I. “Hi” McDunnough, Raising Arizona

Hi wants to be a dad so badly he steals a kid. Probably not the best way to go about starting a family, but hey, his heart was totally in the right place.

Vito Corleone, The Godfather

Vito Corelone is one of the greatest movie dads of all time (and if you dare to disagree, he’ll have you killed). Sure, he’s a professional criminal who murdered (or ordered the murders) of who knows how many people, but above all else, the Don is a family man. He even says, “a man that doesn’t spend time with his family can never be a real man.”

Clark Griswold, National Lampoon’s Vacation Series

Clark Griswold is the dad with a heart of gold who just can’t seem to get anything right. Everything he does is over the top and totally crazy (from putting so many Christmas lights on the house that it causes a power outage across all of Chicago, to pulling a (fake) gun on a Wally World security guard in order to get his kids into the amusement park after its closed, but it’s all done in the hopes of showing his family a fun time.

Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker, Star Wars

If you can overlook the whole cutting off Luke’s hand, destroying Leia’s home planet right before her eyes, etc etc…in the end, Darth Vader/Anakin Skywalker turns out to be a pretty good father after all, literally sacrificing himself for his son. The father-son bond: strong enough to bring even a Sith Lord back from the dark side.

Daniel Hillard/Mrs. Euphegenia Doubtfire, Mrs. Doubtfire

I never realized how creepy and completely disturbing the movie Mrs. Doubtfire actually is until I tried watching it as an adult. That said, any man that will wear a body suit, put on makeup, and impersonate an old British woman just for the chance to be around his children must really love his kids.

Marlin, Finding Nemo

Marlin is a single dad who is way too overprotective and completely shelters his son. But even though he needs to learn to lighten up a little, he’s the kind of father who will travel to the ends of the earth ocean to find his kid and bring him safely home.

Ben Stone, Knocked Up

Lazy stoner Ben is totally not ready to be a dad when he, well, knocks up Katherine Heigel after a one night stand. Though It definitely takes a while, by the time the baby is born, he cleans up his act and really steps up for his new daughter. Proof that a baby can be enough to turn even the most unlikely of characters into an awesome parent.

Bryan Mills, Taken/Taken 2

Some of his methods might be a bit…morally questionable, but like any good father, Bryan Mills will do anything to protect his little girl. And really, who wants to fight Liam Neeson?

Wayne Szalinski, Honey I Shrunk the Kids

Rick Moranis shrinks his kids (and later blows them up in a pretty awful sequel) with one of his wacky inventions. He’s the ultimate nerdy dad.
