<span class="dropcap">W</span>hile 2-in-1 laptops have been gaining popularity in recent years, this year’s top 5 premium laptops all have the old-school clamshell form factor, albeit with very thin ultrabook profiles. Apple, Microsoft and Dell are, not surprisingly, on the list again, but Huawei made a big splash with its classy offering, the Matebook X Pro.</p>
<p>Intel&#8217;s 8th Generation Core processors swept the top 5, as Apple caught up to the Windows brands this year.</p>
<p>With tablet sales declining, traditional PC sales—which include both Windows and Mac laptops—saw their first growth in 6 years. Although the sleek smartphone releases steal all the headlines, these stylish (and yes, lustworthy) laptops are sure to turn some heads.</p>
<h3>Apple Macbook Air 13 13.3-inch Laptop (2018)</h3>
<div class="one_half"><div class="grey-box"><div class="grey-box-content"></p>
<p><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MBA13.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-33446" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MBA13-300x242.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="" width="300" height="242" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MBA13-300x242.jpg 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MBA13.jpg 700w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a></p>
<h6 style="text-align: center;">Street price: From $1199 for 128GB model<br />
Weight &amp; size: 2.75 lbs. | 11.97 x 8.36 x 0.16-0.61 in.</h6>
<hr />
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Pros:</strong> New Retina Display, smaller and lighter, additional colors, Thunderbolt 3</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Cons:</strong> Starts $200 more than previous year&#8217;s base model</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="button blue"><a href="https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-air" >Buy at Apple Store</a></span> <span class="button orange"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/search/Macbook+Air+13+2018/" >MacBook Air 13 Deals on Ben&#8217;s</a></span></div></div></div>
<p class="p1"><div class="one_half last">Announced by Apple in late October at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the retooled 13.3-inch Macbook Air finally got the high-resolution Retina Display (2560 x 1600) that Apple’s other laptops have had for several years. The dated, wide silver bezels are gone, replaced by narrow black bezels like the other MacBooks. While the Air still retains its signature wedge shape, the overall footprint has shrunken, although it’s still a touch heavier and thicker than the 12-inch MacBook.</p>
<p class="p1">Sporting the new 8th generation Core i5 dual-core processor, 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD, the Air seems like a better buy compared to the MacBook, which starts at $1299 with a Core m3 processor but also a 256GB SSD. At $1199, this is still Apple’s “entry level” laptop…</p>
<p class="p1">The new Air also gets 3 colors like the MacBook: Space Gray, Rose Gold and the classic Silver. It also jettisons the standard USB ports of past models for the Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) ports sported by the other MacBook lines.</p>
<p class="p1">What a difference a year makes: last year, the 12-inch MacBook replaced the Air on this list; in 2018, the Air is the recommended buy and the MacBook is a pass.</div><div class="clearboth"></div></p>
<h3>Microsoft Surface Laptop 2 13.5-inch Laptop (2018)</h3>
<p><div class="one_half"><span class="s1">The first generation Surface Laptop was the best Windows laptop of 2017, and this year’s version holds onto the crown despite some very tight competition. It was Microsoft’s answer to Apple’s MacBook, and for many, it finally surpassed its longtime rival in the hardware department.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Microsoft has wisely chosen to not fix what’s not broken, so cosmetically the 2nd generation model looks basically the same, although you can now choose a sleek matte black color option (only available in the step-up model). Plus, it starts at a mainstream price point of $999, which definitely makes it a very aggressive competitor to Apple.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Like last year, the $999 base model gets you a Core i5 processor, 8GB RAM and 128GB SSD. This year, you do get the updated 8th generation CPUs, which start at four cores instead of two, which will be helpful for applications that eat up multiple cores, like Photoshop.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Also, this year, the Surface Laptop 2 ships with Windows 10, instead of last year’s ill-advised Windows 10 S (whatever that was).</div></span></p>
<div class="one_half last"><div class="grey-box"><div class="grey-box-content"></p>
<p><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MSSurfaceLaptop2.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-33447" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MSSurfaceLaptop2-300x209.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="" width="300" height="209" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MSSurfaceLaptop2-300x209.jpg 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MSSurfaceLaptop2-768x536.jpg 768w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MSSurfaceLaptop2.jpg 830w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a></p>
<h6 style="text-align: center;">Street price: From $999 for Core i5 + 128GB model<br />
Weight &amp; size: 2.76 lbs. | 12.1 x 8.8 x 0.39-0.57 in.</h6>
<hr />
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Pros: </strong>Build quality, fantastic screen, keyboard, faster internals vs. last year</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Cons: </strong>Still no USB-C (though that might be a pro for some)</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="button blue"><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Surface-Laptop-Intel-128GB/dp/B07HZK3SLP?ie=UTF8&amp;_encoding=UTF8&amp;tag=bensbargaicenter&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325" >Buy on Amazon</a></span> <span class="button orange"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/search/Microsoft+Surface+Laptop+2+Laptop/most-relevant/" >Surface Laptop 2 Deals on Ben&#8217;s</a></span></div></div></div><div class="clearboth"></div>
<h3>Macbook Pro 15 15.4-inch Laptop (2018)</h3>
<div class="one_half"><div class="grey-box"><div class="grey-box-content"></p>
<p><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MacBookPro152018.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-33448" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MacBookPro152018-300x177.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="" width="300" height="177" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MacBookPro152018-300x177.jpg 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MacBookPro152018-768x453.jpg 768w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MacBookPro152018-1024x605.jpg 1024w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/MacBookPro152018.jpg 1262w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a></p>
<h6 style="text-align: center;">Street price: From $2199 for 256GB model<br />
Weight &amp; Size: 4.02 lbs. | 13.75 x 9.48 x 0.61 in.</h6>
<hr />
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Pros: </strong>Powerful, build quality, improved keyboard</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Cons: </strong>Hefty $2000+ price tag, touchbar doesn’t do much</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="button blue"><a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07FK9H65N?ie=UTF8&amp;_encoding=UTF8&amp;tag=bensbargaicenter&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325" >Buy on Amazon</a></span> <span class="button orange"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/search/Macbook+Pro+15+2018+Touch/most-relevant/" >MacBook Pro 15 Deals on Ben&#8217;s</a></span></div></div></div>
<p class="p1"><div class="one_half last">Released in the summer, the 2018 MacBook Pro line remains unchanged on the outside, but got a substantial boost performance-wise with new Intel Coffee Lake processors (starting at six cores for the 15-inch model), faster RAM and faster SSDs.</p>
<p class="p1">2018 also sees the addition of the iPhone-inspired True Tone Display (which adjusts the display based on ambient lighting and can be turned off) and a reworked “butterfly” keyboard in response to the controversial keyboard introduced in 2016. Otherwise, Apple took the conservative route and kept the same form factor of the past two model years.</p>
<p class="p1">If you’re using a 2015 or earlier MBP or are new to Macs entirely, it might be time to seriously consider an upgrade to this year’s Cadillac of Macs. If you own the 2016 or 2017 MacBook, you can probably wait another year unless you really need the under-the-hood improvements.</div><div class="clearboth"></div></p>
<h3>Huawei Matebook X Pro 14-inch Laptop (Late 2018)</h3>
<p><div class="one_half"><span class="s1">While the Surface Laptop goes for the general aesthetic inspired by Apple, the Matebook X Pro by Huawei simply goes for the cloning route. At first glance, with its silver unibody aluminum chassis, the Matebook X Pro almost looks like a MacBook Pro 13, in addition to having the copycat name. Except for the Windows part.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">Actually, the Matebook X Pro has some things going for it that the MacBook Pro does not, including narrower bezels (particularly the top and bottom bezels). As a result, its form factor is very close to 13.3-inch ultrabooks like MBP 13 and the Dell XPS 13, except that it’s a 14-inch class laptop (technically, 13.9-inch). Plus, you get touchscreen functionality, which Apple has been loath to adopt.</span></p>
<p class="p1"><span class="s1">In addition to a Thunderbolt 3 and USB-C port, Huawei has been kind enough to include a single USB-A port—which Apple has jettisoned on all its MacBooks, but most wired peripherals still use. No dongles! And unlike the Surface Laptop 2, it also has USB-C. That&#8217;s not so hard, is it?</div></span></p>
<div class="one_half last"><div class="grey-box"><div class="grey-box-content"></p>
<p><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Huawei-MateBook-X-Pro-04.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-33449" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Huawei-MateBook-X-Pro-04-300x217.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="" width="300" height="217" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Huawei-MateBook-X-Pro-04-300x217.jpg 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Huawei-MateBook-X-Pro-04-768x556.jpg 768w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Huawei-MateBook-X-Pro-04-1024x741.jpg 1024w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/Huawei-MateBook-X-Pro-04.jpg 1294w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a></p>
<h6 style="text-align: center;">Street price: From $1200 for Core i5 + 256GB<br />
Weight &amp; size: 2.9 lbs. | 11.97 x 8.54 x 0.57 in.</h6>
<hr />
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Pros: </strong>Super high resolution display (3000&#215;2000), fingerprint reader, Thunderbolt 3, USB-C and old USB-A</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Cons: </strong>Higher starting price tag than Surface Laptop 2, no Pen support</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="button blue"><a href="http://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=isIkAyUyNbM&amp;mid=24542&amp;murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fp%2Fhuawei-matebook-x-pro-laptop%2F8n4k86d4j006%2Fhb3r" >Buy at Microsoft Store</a></span> <span class="button orange"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/search/Huawei+Matebook+X+Pro/" >Matebook X Pro Deals on Ben&#8217;s</a></span></div></div></div><div class="clearboth"></div>
<h3>Dell XPS 13 (9370) 13.3-inch Laptop (2018)</h3>
<div class="one_half"><div class="grey-box"><div class="grey-box-content"></p>
<p><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/DellXPS13-9370.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-33450" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/DellXPS13-9370-300x173.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="" width="300" height="173" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/DellXPS13-9370-300x173.jpg 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/DellXPS13-9370-768x444.jpg 768w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/DellXPS13-9370.jpg 990w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px" /></a></p>
<h6 style="text-align: center;">Street price: From $833 for Core i3 + 128GB<br />
Weight &amp; size: 2.68 lbs. | 11.9 x 7.8 x 0.3-0.46 in.</h6>
<hr />
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Pros: </strong>Super svelte form factor, build quality, 4K display option, good value</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><strong>Cons: </strong>Still badly placed webcam (although centered now), fan noise</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="button blue"><a href="http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-404255-12578053?url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.dell.com%2Fen-us%2Fshop%2Fdell-laptops%2Fxps-13%2Fspd%2Fxps-13-9370-laptop" >Buy at Dell</a></span> <span class="button orange"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/search/Dell+XPS+13+9370/most-relevant/" >XPS 13 9370 Deals on Ben&#8217;s</a></span></div></div></div>
<p class="p1"><div class="one_half last">Like Apple&#8217;s MacBooks, the Dell XPS 13 is a fixture of our top laptop list every year. Billed as the smallest 13-inch laptop, the XPS 13 has gotten even smaller this year—0.13-inch thinner. Although it weighs basically the same at 2.68 lbs, it&#8217;s also still the lightest on this list.</p>
<p class="p1">The thinness has cost it USB-A and HDMI ports, but Dell is generous enough to pack in a USB-C to USB-A dongle (unlike Apple).</p>
<p>In addition to the new 8th gen Intel processors, this year&#8217;s model gets a shiny new rose gold lid and white keyboard color option.</p>
<p class="p1">Like previous models, there is also a 4K (3840 x 2160) touchscreen option, and Costco members can usually get great deals on that configuration during the holidays. </div><div class="clearboth"></div></p>
<h3>Honorable Mentions</h3>
<p class="p1">These three fancy laptops missed the cut, but might be more appropriate for what you’re looking for.</p>
<p><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/ASUSVivoBookS15small.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="alignleft wp-image-33455 size-thumbnail" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/ASUSVivoBookS15small-150x150.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="" width="150" height="150" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/ASUSVivoBookS15small-150x150.jpg 150w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/ASUSVivoBookS15small-300x300.jpg 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/ASUSVivoBookS15small.jpg 425w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px" /></a></p>
<p class="p1" style="padding-left: 180px;">If you want the luxury feel but are on a smaller budget, the <strong>ASUS Vivobook S15</strong> (from $700) is going to be the best bang for your buck. It&#8217;s got a Macbook-esque shell and is available in 5 fun colors. Like the laptops in our top 5, it has an 8th gen Intel processor, mostly narrow bezels and an aluminum build. At 3.7 pounds, it&#8217;s even lighter than the MBP 15 and it&#8217;s relatively thin (0.7 in.). No Thunderbolt though.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/RazerBlade15.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="alignright wp-image-33456 size-thumbnail" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/RazerBlade15-150x150.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="" width="150" height="150" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/RazerBlade15-150x150.jpg 150w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/RazerBlade15-300x300.jpg 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/RazerBlade15-768x768.jpg 768w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/RazerBlade15.jpg 800w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px" /></a></p>
<p class="p1">If you’re a gamer and need discrete graphics, the <strong>Razer Blade 15</strong> (from $2600) is an excellent and very sleek choice. You get a powerful if not cutting edge graphics card in the GTX 1070 Max-Q. At about 0.8-inch thin and 4.6 pounds, it&#8217;s heavier than other laptops on this list, but very light for a gaming laptop. Some people have reported issues with the power adapter going on the fritz. Also, no built-in Gigabit Ethernet.</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/LenovoYogaC930.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="alignleft wp-image-33457 size-thumbnail" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/LenovoYogaC930-150x150.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="" width="150" height="150" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/LenovoYogaC930-150x150.jpg 150w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/LenovoYogaC930-300x300.jpg 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/LenovoYogaC930.jpg 560w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 150px) 100vw, 150px" /></a></p>
<p class="p1" style="padding-left: 180px;">If you want a convertible laptop, the <strong>Lenovo Yoga C930</strong> (from $1400) maintains the Yoga’s gold standard reputation as best 2-in-1 on the market. The previous model, the Yoga 920, was on our list last year. Now you get an integrated stylus and updated hinge—no longer watchband-esque—that is literally a soundbar now. Another cool feature is Alexa integration with the use of far-field microphones.</p>

<span class="dropcap">I</span>f you&#8217;re shopping for a new premium laptop this holiday season, you&#8217;ll discover that the &#8220;one size fits all&#8221; laptop is less common while niches have become the trend. There are 2-in-1 laptops (like the Lenovo Yoga), hybrid tablet/laptops (like the Surface Pro), gaming laptops, desktop replacement beasts, ultrabooks, fancy Chromebooks and, of course, Macs.</p>
<p>Intel&#8217;s 8th Generation Core processors (aka Coffee Lake) have made their way onto many higher end laptops just in time for the holidays. Just don&#8217;t expect Apple to join that game until the spring.</p>
<p>Our picks from last year could all easily be on this list again in their 2017 iterations. Let&#8217;s briefly review them because they&#8217;re still worth considering:</p>
<ul>

<li>MacBook Pro with Touch Bar [<em>starting at $1799 | shop <a href="https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook-pro">Apple Store</a></em>]</li>
</ul>
<p>Now let&#8217;s take a look at 5 more premium laptops that are ready to join that esteemed lineup in 2017.</p>
<h3>Microsoft Surface Laptop</h3>
<div class="grey-box"><div class="grey-box-content"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Microsoft-Surface-Laptop.png"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-30760 size-full" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Microsoft-Surface-Laptop.png" loading="lazy" alt="" width="822" height="525" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Microsoft-Surface-Laptop.png 822w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Microsoft-Surface-Laptop-300x192.png 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Microsoft-Surface-Laptop-768x491.png 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 822px) 100vw, 822px" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>Pros:</strong></em> Free Windows 10 Pro (before 12/31/17), Small footprint; <em><strong>Cons:</strong></em> Windows 10 S pre-installed, Only 7th Gen right now | <em><strong>MSRP:</strong> </em>starting at $999</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="button green"><a href="https://click.linksynergy.com/deeplink?id=isIkAyUyNbM&amp;mid=24542&amp;murl=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.microsoft.com%2Fen-us%2Fstore%2Fconfig%2Fsurface-laptop%2F90FC23DV6SNZ" >Click Here to Buy at Microsoft</a></span> <span class="button green"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/search/Surface%2520Laptop/?sr=1" >Or Search Ben&#8217;s for Surface Laptop Deals</a></span></div></div>
<p>Think of the Surface Laptop as the cool cousin of last year’s pick, the Surface Book. Introduced in 2017, the Surface Laptop is aimed directly at students rather than professionals, and Microsoft is clearly trying to pry them away from their MacBooks.</p>
<p>The Surface Laptop is still a premium laptop with premium specs and price tag, but its most controversial and talked-about “feature” is the Alcantara fabric around the keyboard. It’s been compared to the carpet in cars and it’s the most noticeable thing about the laptop when you first see it.</p>
<p>The next thing you notice is how light (2.76 lbs.) and thin (0.57”) it is and how small the footprint is for a 13.5” laptop (12.13” wide). Open up the lid and you see a gorgeous 2256 x 1504 (201 PPI) display with ultra-thin bezels.</p>
<p>Base specs are a 7th gen Core i5 processor, 4GB memory and 128GB SSD. If possible, bump up to 8GB memory and 256GB SSD (for another $300), but decide before you buy, because you can’t upgrade later. It comes in 4 colors, but annoyingly the more attractive colors like Cobalt Blue are only available at the higher $1299 price point.</p>
<p>Also annoying: the Surface Laptop comes pre-installed with the walled-off Windows 10 S. The good news is you can upgrade to Windows 10 Pro for free by the end of 2017. Don’t forget to do that!</p>
<h3>Asus Zenbook 13 (UX330UA-AH55)</h3>
<div class="grey-box"><div class="grey-box-content"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Asus-Zenbook-13.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-30761 size-full" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Asus-Zenbook-13.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="" width="1500" height="870" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Asus-Zenbook-13.jpg 1500w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Asus-Zenbook-13-300x174.jpg 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Asus-Zenbook-13-768x445.jpg 768w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Asus-Zenbook-13-1024x594.jpg 1024w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 1500px) 100vw, 1500px" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>Pros:</strong></em> Best ultrabook value on the market, 8th Gen CPU; <em><strong>Cons:</strong></em> No touchscreen option, Wide bezels | <em><strong>MSRP:</strong> </em>$749</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="button green"><a href="https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Slim-13-3-inch-Fingerprint-Anti-Glare-UX330UA-AH55/dp/B075N1YHVK?ie=UTF8&amp;_encoding=UTF8&amp;tag=bensbargaicenter&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325" >Click Here to Buy on Amazon</a></span> <span class="button green"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/search/ASUS+Zenbook+13+UX330UA/" >Or Search Ben&#8217;s for ASUS Zenbook 13 Deals</a></span></div></div>
<p>The ASUS Zenbook UX330UA-AH55 proves you can get a premium ultrabook for well under $1000 without sacrificing build quality or specs. If you plan to spend over $500 on a laptop, this is probably the best value on the market.</p>
<p>ASUS has updated the Zenbook 13 for 2017 with a new 8th generation chip while still keeping the list price at $749. Last year’s 7th Gen Core i5 model (UX330UA-AH54) has been as low as $630 on Ben’s Bargains (currently $699 on <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Slim-13-3-inch-Fingerprint-Anti-Glare-UX330UA-AH55/dp/B01M18UZF5?ie=UTF8&amp;_encoding=UTF8&amp;tag=bensbargaicenter&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325">Amazon</a>).</p>
<p>The Zenbook 13 has an amazing price when you get a Core i5-8250U processor, full HD display, aluminum alloy unibody chassis, 256GB SSD, backlit keyboard, fingerprint reader and USB-C Gen 1 port all in a half-inch thin package weighing about 2.5 pounds. There also three standard USB 3.0 ports so you don’t have to worry about adapters.</p>
<p>You can spring for the 3200 x 1800 display with the 7th Gen Core i5 processor for only around $760 on <a href="https://www.amazon.com/Ultra-Slim-13-3-inch-Fingerprint-Anti-Glare-UX330UA-AH55/dp/B06XSZC11D/?ie=UTF8&amp;_encoding=UTF8&amp;tag=bensbargaicenter&amp;linkCode=ur2&amp;camp=1789&amp;creative=9325">Amazon</a>. Decisions, decisions!</p>
<p>ASUS has paid a lot of attention to the details, but there are some issues like lack of upgradeability (pretty standard for ultrabooks these days), no touchscreen option and bezels that are about 5 years behind the times. It also really looks like the (now-dated) MacBook Air, but maybe you’re OK with that.</p>
<h3>Lenovo Yoga 920</h3>
<div class="grey-box"><div class="grey-box-content"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Lenovo-Yoga-920.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-30762 size-full" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Lenovo-Yoga-920.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="" width="970" height="626" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Lenovo-Yoga-920.jpg 970w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Lenovo-Yoga-920-300x194.jpg 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Lenovo-Yoga-920-768x496.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 970px) 100vw, 970px" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>Pros:</strong></em> Beautiful design, Ultra-thin, 8th Gen CPU; <em><strong>Cons:</strong></em> Active Pen 2 not included | <em><strong>MSRP:</strong> </em>starting at $1230</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="button green"><a href="https://lenovo.7eer.net/c/10531/236375/3808?u=https%3A%2F%2Fwww3.lenovo.com%2Fus%2Fen%2Flaptops%2Fyoga%2Fyoga-900-series%2FYoga-920-13-inch%2Fp%2F88YG9000859%3F" >Click Here to Buy at Lenovo</a></span> <span class="button green"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/search/Lenovo+Yoga+920/most-relevant/" >Or Search Ben&#8217;s for Lenovo Yoga 920 Deals</a></span></div></div>
<p>In 2017, Lenovo upgraded its flagship 2-in-1 with 8th gen Intel processors and new “far-field” mics for use with Cortana from as far as 12 feet away, much like an Amazon Echo. The Yoga 920 keeps the unique, attention-getting watch band-style hinge of its predecessors.</p>
<p>The base model is frequently discounted on the Lenovo online store and will get you the Core i5-8250U processor, full HD touchscreen display, 256GB SSD and 8GB memory. It unfortunately doesn&#8217;t include the new Lenovo Active Pen 2 ($60), which behaves similarly to a Wacom pen. Of course, shell out a lot more money and you can upgrade to more powerful specs with 4K UHD display, Core i7 and 1TB SSD.</p>
<p>For Star Wars aficionados, the Yoga 920 will also be available in December in Rebel or Imperial Gorilla Glass cover designs (already available for the Yoga 910, which we’ve seen on Ben’s for <a href="https://bensbargains.com/bargain/lenovo-star-wars-yoga-910-glass-core-i7-fhd-14-2-in-1-laptop-559286/">as low as $930</a>)</p>
<p>Despite all the metal and glass, it’s still just a shade over 3 lbs. and a mere 0.55” thin and remains one of the more stunning laptops out there, this side of the HP Spectre.</p>
<h3>Dell Alienware 13 R3 (OLED)</h3>
<div class="grey-box"><div class="grey-box-content"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Alienware-13-R3.png"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-30763 size-full" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Alienware-13-R3.png" loading="lazy" alt="" width="748" height="462" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Alienware-13-R3.png 748w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Alienware-13-R3-300x185.png 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 748px) 100vw, 748px" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>Pros:</strong></em> Great display, Powerful specs; <em><strong>Cons:</strong></em> Awkward design, Short battery life (5 hrs.) | <em><strong>MSRP:</strong> </em>starting at $2230 (OLED)</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="button green"><a href="https://www.kqzyfj.com/click-404255-12578053?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dell.com%2Fen-us%2Fshop%2Fdell-laptops%2Falienware-13-gaming%2Fspd%2Falienware-13-laptop" >Click Here to Buy at Dell</a></span> <span class="button green"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/search/Alienware%252013%2520R3/?sr=1" >Or Search Ben&#8217;s for Alienware 13 R3 Deals</a></span></div></div>
<p>The redesigned Alienware 13 R3 hit the market this year as the first gaming laptop with an OLED display, and the 2560 x 1440 touchscreen is a beauty to behold.</p>
<p>The Alienware 13 R3 has also got a big, <em>ahem</em>, rear end because Dell moved the heatsinks behind the screen and used what&#8217;s called a “hinge-forward” design (about 1.5 inches forward). It allows the overall laptop to be under an inch (0.87”). While it&#8217;s relatively small for a gaming laptop,  it&#8217;s still pretty chunky at nearly 6 lbs. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder but let&#8217;s just say this machine is, uh, super, <em>super</em> boxy.</p>
<p>The VR-ready OLED model is packed with powerful specs: a 7th Gen Core i7 Quad-Core processor with 6GB GTX 1080 discrete graphics, 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD. You can easily get smooth video at 30 fps but not necessarily at 60 fps. Extra bling: there are four customizable keyboard lighting zones and even a backlight for the trackpad.</p>
<h3>Apple MacBook 12 (2017)</h3>
<div class="grey-box"><div class="grey-box-content"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/MacBook-12.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter wp-image-30764 size-full" src="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/MacBook-12.jpg" loading="lazy" alt="" width="800" height="600" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/MacBook-12.jpg 800w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/MacBook-12-300x225.jpg 300w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/MacBook-12-768x576.jpg 768w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><em><strong>Pros:</strong></em> Improved 2nd-Gen Butterfly Keyboard; <em><strong>Cons:</strong></em> High starting price, No Touch ID, One USB-C port | <em><strong>MSRP:</strong> </em>starting at $1299</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><span class="button green"><a href="https://www.apple.com/shop/buy-mac/macbook" >Click Here to Buy at Apple Store</a></span> <span class="button green"><a href="https://bensbargains.com/search/apple+macbook+12+2017/most-relevant/" >Or Search Ben&#8217;s for MacBook (2017) Deals</a></span></div></div>
<p>In its third iteration, the vanilla MacBook gets its biggest change in the form of an improved keyboard. The controversial “flat” keyboard has been replaced with one that has more tactile response—a good move by Apple that should convince some potential buyers who&#8217;ve been on the fence.</p>
<p>For years, MacBooks have been market leaders in terms of design and build quality, but in 2017 it does feel like the competition (such as Microsoft’s Surface Line) is catching up in those areas. Still, if you live and breathe in the Mac ecosystem and don’t need the serious muscle that the Pro series provides, the MacBook is really your only portable choice and you&#8217;ll probably enjoy using it more. The MacBook Air sadly now feels like a relic.</p>
<p>The base model with a Kaby Lake Core m3 CPU starts at $1299, which seems high considering the comparable $1299 Surface Laptop configuration has a Core i5 processor, but if you&#8217;ve worked with Macs long enough, you’re obviously willing to make that tradeoff.</p>
<p>With the Macbook 2017, you’re getting a delightfully lightweight (2 lbs.), half-inch slice of minimalist aluminum tech goodness that will warm the cockles of your Apple-lovin&#8217; heart.</p>
