Changing oil in a car or truck is the most simple job you can do!! You all would be lost if you had to do what I did this weekend to save $800. I removed a failing alternator from a 07 Nissan maxima. You have to pull the fan and radiator because there is no room to work it out otherwise, then you have to jack up the right front of car, pull wheel, loosen idler pulley, and the fun starts there. You have to remove a long bolt the length of the alternator, which requires two people to install the brand new alternator. all in all, it costed me a total of $113 to do it myself!! Nissan quoted me $800 for the job. You fellers need to get motivated and save those bones.

I hate to tell you this Mr. Goodwrench but there are many of us who can repair circles around you. Its great that you can replace an alternator but that's right above replacing a set of brake pads. Never a$$ume anyone is "lost" because many times the person who is making the "a$$"umption is the one who is showing their.....

You have no idea who you are talking too! I have done nearly every car and truck repair job you can imagine, I was only using the alternator repair as an example. Sure, It was simple to pull and install a new alternator 20 years ago because no one cared if they mounted them at the top of the engine, But now, because of technology and aesthetics being considered of utmost importance these days, they tuck it away because they consider it to be ugly!! It's hard for the shade tree or even authorized mechanic to work on them because of that reason! Majority of people end up unhooking the air condenser hose and lines along with pulling the radiator because there is ZERO room to work on most modern cars. With that said, You are awfully salty just because I am trying to influence people to do it themselves and save money so a mechanic won't screw them over. Have you forgotten what this website is called?!?!? It's BENSBARGAINS!! Your profile name isn't befitting, because apparently you LOVE getting ripped off! I am as chincy as they come. Heck, I value walking more than driving because of all the money I can save! I know mechanics need to make money, but there is plenty that puts the screw on common folk everyday. This is coming from experience, most of my Uncles and Father are/were Authorized Mechanics or own a garage. I'll take you calling me "Mr.Goodwrench" as a compliment! ;) I hope you have a great day, and happy savings!!

Ah, I remember back in the day, when you learned in Kindergarten how to share, make friends, respect others, especially the teacher (or get slapped upside the head by the teacher). Nowadays, teachers can't touch you, and look what has happened. People can't get along, no one respects another, authority gets no respect, people bash each other on deal sites just because they think they're entitled to something. We need to bring back them good old days.

I grew up when every car used 10W-40 oil. Now it's been 5W-30 for about the last 30 years. WHAT the hell is 0W-20? What uses this stuff? !!??!?!!! ?

^ Modern engines with tighter tolerances, for the first few tens of thousands of miles, especially in cold winter climates.
