In case anyone is considering "shucking" these - as in removing the drive inside and re-purposing them (often times obtaining multiples and setting them up in RAID configurations) - search for either the keyword of "shuck" or "inside" in the reviews. At least two reviewers mention these have WD Green based units inside, so you may want to take that into consideration since WD Red units (in the past have been found in the 8TB versions) are often preferred for such configurations.
Regarding what the previous comment says, if you want the WD red units, then go to Best Buy. They're selling the 8TB drives (Red units inside) for $159.99 online but my local store had them for $149.99.

Yes, that was definitely true when I bought a few nearly a year ago but recently I've been reading through the reddit posts that some of them now have white labels with the model of WD80EMAZ instead of the desired Red label of WD80EFZX, though they both tend to have the same specifications. There have also been reports of the white labeled versions not powering on when taken out of the factory enclosure due to a "power disable feature".
The workaround to the white label issue, however, can be found by internet searching for "8TB EasyStore WD White Label Issue" which should lead to the reddit post (I was unable to post direct reddit URLs the last time I tried here on Bens, unfortunately).
