Like many health and wellness products, there is precious little data that shows these things actually work. Save your money.

I don't know that they work to build muscle, but they can work for people with chronic muscular pain (from muscle spasm).

I've used one for years to help with muscle pain. Say what you want, but a 15 minute session of this is way more effective at blocking the pain than a handful of pain killers.

There was a company that was a vendor at the state fair who was selling a wireless version. They felt pretty good but I have one of the older portable ones. They did nothing for me. I went to try a commercial grade one and got jolted when one of the wires came loose and the therapist put it back on me. It was like getting kicked by a horse. It worked lots better than the portable ones.

I get significant lower back pain and tightness and have found significant relief form use of my TENS unit. Definitely a believer in use for muscle tightness or spasms for immediate relief.

I've purchased other TENS stimulators in the past when they go on sale under $20. I find them helpful to mitigate the pain when I strain my sensitive back.
