It's not likely to be a bios issue, don't recall any tech limit at this size but why not buy larger is you're not paying a premium for more *fast* capacity than you need. The average person doesn't need their boot drive to be larger than 128GB, let alone 480GB, then may have a HDD or NAS for additional bulk storage. Less spent on excess SSD capacity means more spent on HDD capacity within the same budget.
A smaller OS boot drive along with another storage volume also means OS par***ion backups are smaller, more manageable. You could par***ion a larger SSD to accomplish this but if the SSD fails then the 2nd par***ion is gone too, should still have the backup on another storage device.
