Announced today, Google will be turning off all Stadia servers on January 18, 2023. Google will be offering refunds on all Stadia hardware / software purchases. This includes:

  • Stadia Controller, Founders Edition, Premiere Edition
  • Play and Watch with Google TV packages
  • All software transactions (games and add-on purchases) through the Stadia store

Physical hardware won't need to be returned. Refunds will be issued to original payment method. Stadia Pro subscriptions are not eligible for refund.

Stadia worked fine on my fiber connection and Google gave away a free controller and Chromecast HDMI adapter. I think Stadia just charged too much for lame games when you we all have better cloud streaming options like Geforce Now (Steam and Epic game libraries) and the massive Xbox Game Pass Cloud are both way better options.

Here's hoping they release a proper bluetooth firmware so those controllers aren't just e-waste. They seem really well reviewed.
