Standard 4 burner symetrical ranges are usually 4X9000 BTU. Another consideration not mentioned is there MUST be a source of "make-up"air; air to replace the air that is lost thru this vent to the outside when the building has other gas-powered appliances like a water heater or furnace. This is to avoid reversion, or a backflow of CO into the building. There are more things to review, like other air losses (exhaust fans in the bathroom, etc.) and how well the house is sealed. Many utility companies will do a free blower door test for this.
^ Not sure how far back it goes but afaik it's been code for several years that gas furnaces had to have an isolated air intake (pipe), sealed system that typically also has an exhaust fan (failure) cutoff circuit so they are unaffected by the rest of the home's air pressure being positive or negative. Don't think it's the case for water heaters tho'.
