    On the fence on this one. Can I just use it for games and not activate the Virgin Mobile service and just use wifi?


    I don't see why you couldn't... I've done similar things with Verizon phones.. especially if you root it.

    If your using it as a cheap mini-tablet it may bug the **** out of wanting to activate. There may be a way to root it and turn this off though.

    Not sure if this would affect your decision making, but HTC is known to have poor support for its phones in term of software update, even if the hardware is able to handle it. Kind of disappointing especially considering how it sells itself as a competitor to Samsung. I suspect that the Android software for this phone will update to 5.0, but doubt any further update thereafter.
