I received an email today from Sears associate Adrian D about the predicament of having multiple mistaken duplicate orders shipped out to me from Sears.com. My raison d'être.

Adrian described the complicated situation in detail and suggested the resolution I should employ. I checked all the charges and Adrian seems to have fully understood the complicated Sears.com situation in its entirety.

Maybe I'm not the first customer with this problem?

Eddie should promote Adrian to the Executive Team. Some folks are born to approach complicated tasks and successful resolutions to foul-ups as enjoyment within a usual days work. It ain't me, it ain't me. I ain't no fortunate one.

That dog of mine. The most remarkable hearing capability. Lets me know 45 seconds ahead of time when the UPS driver is hauling up the gravel road to my mountaintop place. She gave me a reverse high-five down-low as I extended my palm out behind me. How cool is that?

The UPS driver; "Didn't you just have one of these delivered yesterday?" Me standing in the middle of a lightning storm (wearing hooded Dri-Ducks from Ben's a few years ago). The entire cabin running on Ben's-related battery backup today as I had been knocked clean off my feet last year from the concussion of having my place being hit with lightning. That'll wake you up.

Well yes, Adrian and the UPS driver had held a mind-meld so the situation with the first foul-up seems to have gotten resolved. I hate to make that UPS driver come all the way out to where I've gone country on this mountain top. I think he likes it though -- the scenery is spectacular.

My dog; "When is the Ben's bacon arriving? I will listen for both UPS and FedEx."

Ernie Ball listening for tone. UPS tone versus FedEx tone -- I still never hear the difference..

All the errant extra items in this Sears fiasco were returned to Sears nine calendar days ago and the refund from Sears still has not arrived for the return. I called Sears voice support again and Carlos at Sears says he's sent a reminder. I have a combined four total hours into this "project" of getting these Sears website errors straightened out. My reason for living.

I just looked at Sears most recent quarterly earnings end-date -- it's July 31st.

2 + 2 =

I know Sears is baconing heavily with trying to make a go of it but I sure wish it wasn't on my dime.

^ I can't help but think it would have taken me less time to resolve it all than it took you to tell us about it. :P

Yeah, you would have thought that to be possible.

Sears wrote to me this afternoon (this time, Ethan from Sears Member Services) essentially stating all requests for refund are denied, have a good day.

I'm filing a PayPal claim. I was hoping I wasn't going to have to go through all that but now it is necessary.

This is what happens when an old-school company like Sears is struggling to stay alive in a tough industry like retail.

The lesson for consumers reading about this carrot-cluck is twofold:

1) No matter how good the deal looks, never order from retailers struggling to stay alive
2) Always pay with PayPal so there is an avenue to pursue when retailers can't get their act together

Grandma Sears returned from her Wisconsin holiday and noticed the refund amount for the Sears website snafus hadn't been processed yet. Seems the staff got some of the refunds processed via PayPal but couldn't figure out how to get a whopper three-figure refund amount to work electronically. Probably had to bounce it past Bushkin on the up elevator and Bushkin said no for that kind of sum.

So Grandma promptly got out her pen and wrote me a paper check. Dropped it into the US Postal Service mail so you know it will get here quickly and reliably, right?

Grandma suggested in her email today, "Please allow ten business days for the check to arrive."

Bless her heart.

Henceforth I shall purchase all my arm-rest doilies, knick-knacks and holiday carrot cakes from Sears.

Ten business days -- I guess that allows for a round trip down to Ecuador and back by the US Postal Service.

Good, were making progress here. Slow and steady is the watchword.

Lessee, the closest branch bank for deposit of Grandma's paper check when it arrives is 51 miles distance from here. That's too far to drive so figure another week down to Ecuador and back and we should be good to go with the deposit.

I love it when a plan comes together.
