Better off getting a brand with real leather muffs. These are known to fail after a year and replacement is cost-prohibitive. Buying a refurb in the first place could be even more of a shorter lifespan.
This particular Bose model has quality problems. Lots of reviews of them living a short life, and dying right after warranty expiration. Most headphones I've owned, I only replaced because I wanted something with better/newer features, not because they failed. There are also diminishing returns in audio and ANC effectiveness as the prices go up. You can get some pretty good cans at < $100.
