Heaters that plug into an ordinary 120VAC outlet are typically limited to 1500W (like this one), though a very few dissipate the absolute legal limit of 1800W (indistinguishable difference). Whether a $15 or $150 unit - they all add the same heat to the room. This is the hot scoop.
I have a Vornado VH200 whole room heater and it is one of the best purchases I ever made. It has 3 heat settings, is cool to the touch so is safe with kids or pets, has tip over protection (a switch on the bottom that shuts off the heater if tipped over), and overheating shut off in case something were to block the front of it. Plus it has a 5 year warranty and the company pays shipping both ways if you have to send it in for repair. It cost me around $65 and doesn't have a digital read out or remote control but does have a knob to adjust the thermostat so it turns on and off to keep the temperature where you want it. It is also very quiet. Heats up a 14 x 14 foot room without a problem. They say it uses a vortex action to recirculate the air in the room back through the heater and i works very well.
