I never understood why Asian phonetics were spelled the way they are. The point of phonetics is to spell words as they sound in their native language. That should be "shaoshing" . And doesn't even get me started on the wacky Vietnamese phonetics... Wuzzup with all of the useless markings. Just say "fuh" instead of Pho and your all set. Me for president of the world.
