As much as I love BB and love a good deal, I draw the line when it comes to getting cheap knockoff's of OEM water filters. Yes, the Whirlpool filters I buy cost roughly 3 times as much as these, but they last me 6 months and give me better peace of mind.
There is a 96.237% chance they are all made in the same Chinese factory. OEM or otherwise. Best thing you can do is take a sample from your Whirlpool filter and a sample from whatever knock-off brand you decide and send them in for laboratory testing. Chances are they will be 98.624% similar. (You have to accept the variances in the air as you seal the vials.) But I get it. Sometimes peace of mind is worth more than a simple and inexpensive lab test. That's why I my Doctors name is WebMD.com!
A recent study of statistics quoted on Ben's Bargains, determined that 87.993% of those statistics were actually just made up, and had no merit whatsoever.
I have a whole house filtration system since we have a well so I just use cheap filters in the appliances as it's already filtered for me so this would work if it would fit mine. They also make empty ones for people like me that have the whole house setups but I haven't tried one of those yet.
I do agree with Washington that most off brand items are made in the same factories as the regular items but sometimes those items are 2nd tier rather than being 100% up to the standards of the OEM. Just little things like less filtration material, thinner plastic walls, etc. It's funny when you look at off brand food here in the USA and find out the major brand MAKES the off brand lol gotta love greed :(
Filters on a fridge are annoying at best. I haven't changed the one that was installed in our fridge when we bought it 18 yrs ago and never had an issue. We too are on a private well and have a whole house carbon filtration system, over 3cu ft of carbon filtering every drop of water, which is sanitized with a chlorination system before it even reaches the carbon filter.
