How about buying you buy the Echo Dot + music for $8.98 and sell it to Best buy for $20, you make $11 and a free month od Amzon music and pretend you never had the Echo dot

Amazing price/offering! Agreed on the paranoid perspectives of privacy with these devices. Although they can be "conceptually" hacked, do you also avoid flying due to the risk of a crash? There are so many obstacles to hack these as well as the ridiculous amount of data that would need to be parsed through to extract *your* conversation, the fear of these devices is quite comical.

agree! it sounds better compared to my 2nd gen echo. take note to adjust the equalizer setting in the alexa app.

Pro Tip: Downgrade your music unlimited plan to a single device plan for only $3.99 per month. Definitely worth it if you only plan to use the echo dot as your music player

Nothing to be too excited about.
I have the echo dot, prime. The device is no more than a toy to me. For current rate, Amazon prime is ok for some movies, some purchasing, some music, some books. In the long run, I'm not sure I will keep this convenience. Find myself need less and less.

Because that smart phone that is with you everywhere - not simply at home - is a much bigger .....

Haha, so you’re only concerned about privacy when you sleep?

Can you pull the battery out of your smartphone or are you “trusting” that “turning off” your phone actually turns it off? ;-)

BTW, since these Dots have no internal battery, yes you can completely remove power by unplugging them so you can have a peaceful and private sleep. No need to “trust” the microphone mute button on the Dot or telling it to sleep. ;-)

This almost-free DOT can be amazing. I bought high-end powered speakers and installed them in various locations - connecting each system to a DOT via a simple 3.5mm audio cable. The result is that anywhere in my home, I can say "Alexa, shuffle Stan Getz" - and get truly high fidelity instant response.
