Amazon and Nintendo have teamed up for a new promotion that’s ideal for Nintendo Switch owners. Available for all Twitch Prime members (which is free to join if you have an Amazon Prime account), you can get up to 12 months of Nintendo Switch Online service (a $20 value) for free.

Be aware, it’s split up into two separate actions. First, you activate the initial 3-months of the service and link it to your Nintendo Switch. Two months after that activation, you can go back to the promotion page to activate an additional 9-months of service. The service will convert to a paid membership after activated, so be sure to so into your settings and flip off the auto-renewal option if you don’t want to continue the service.

If you are unfamiliar with Nintendo Switch Online, it offers access to online multiplayer in games like Mario Kart and Super Smash Bros. as well as access to the large library of old-school NES games. In addition, it provides access to a cloud service for storing your game saves and a smartphone app to enhance online multiplayer features in some games.

New Amazon Prime Perk: 1-Year Nintendo Switch Online Membership

Announced this week, Amazon will no longer offer a 20% discount on game preorders as of August 28, 2018. On August 28, Amazon will start offering a $10 promotional credit with full-priced preorders, hitting user accounts after the order has been fulfilled.

There are some caveats. The $10 offer will be available on “select” preorders instead of all preorders. This means Amazon will pick and choose which preorders will receive the credit.

In addition, Amazon has up to 35 days to send the credit to a user’s email address. Once the credit is received, the user has to spend it on Amazon within 60 days or the credit expires.

It’s likely that Amazon’s shift in this discount policy is related to the discontinuation of Best Buy’s Gamers Club Unlocked program. That service also offered a 20 percent discount on preorders and was replaced with a similar $10 credit system on select games, pretty much identical to Amazon.

Interestingly, several popular, upcoming titles are currently unavailable on Amazon for preorder including games like Spider-Man and Red Dead Redemption 2. It’s possible Amazon is holding off on preorder functionality on some titles until after August 28th.

You can still find the preorder discount on titles like Fallout 76 and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, ideal if you want to save more money than the $10 credit. The 20 percent discount will be available on all video game preorders for the next week.
