Back in July at San Diego Comic-Con, Warner Bros. debuted the first footage of next year’s Mad Max: Fury Road, a defiantly CGI-less, apocalyptic return for the franchise’s original creator, George Miller. That trailer took the film’s wanton vehicular violence in a somber and desperate direction, somewhat in line with how an advertiser might assume what a millennial would expect out of his or her end-of-the-world summer blockbuster. Here’s The Dark Knight version of Mad Max: Fury Road:

Fast-forward to this week and you’ve got something altogether different in tone and outlook, albeit constructed with much the same footage as before. It’s the music, above all else, that sets it apart. It’s also Nicholas Hoult’s confused, painted face that reminds us what kind of universe we’re really in. Here’s The Guardians of the Galaxy version of Mad Max: Fury Road:

Considering George Miller’s past projects, it’s likely the final product will fall somewhere in the middle, camping the edge between insane and ridiculous in the best way possible. Still, we’ll always be graced with this one revelation, time and time again.

With the 3D-masterpiece Gravity lighting up theaters in October as never seen before, it’s time to see what else Hollywood has in store for us over the next few months. Typically, fall is the time where studios roll out their Oscar-ready vehicles, but over the past several years it has also become a time where big-budget tentpole movies have begun to spring up—and with them their trailers (usually filled with big explosions).

As always, between the release of a movie’s trailer and its actual premiere, there is the sweet, sweet hope that this movie, finally, will be the GREATEST MOVIE EVER MADE IN THE HISTORY OF MOVIES.

Here are seven (green-band) movie trailers that will make you hope that the fall season hasn’t already peaked with Gravity… which it probably already has:

THE SECRET LIFE OF WALTER MITTY

The stylish cinematography and the Of Monsters and Men soundtrack create a unique and charming mood in the first movie trailer for this remake directed by Ben Stiller. The extended international trailer is also pretty good. (December 25)

ENDER’S GAME

One of the most hotly anticipated movies of the fall, this final trailer for the popular science fiction book adaption showcases some fine special effects and a non-somnambulant performance by Harrison Ford. Big question mark is the kid. (November 1)

THE MONUMENTS MEN

With a big all-star cast and World War II backdrop, the second movie trailer for this George Clooney-directed film has a decidedly retro-Hollywood feel and looks like a lot of old-fashioned fun. (December 18)

THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG (3D)

The second trailer for The Hobbit 2 is an excellent blend of mystery, action, dialogue of great import and spectacular Peter Jackson set pieces. The Benedict Cumberbatch-voiced Smaug is a treat. (December 13)

47 RONIN (3D)

While this troubled production has been delayed a couple years, the trailer’s visuals look cool and Keanu is in his natural element here…which is a good thing. (December 25)

THOR: THE DARK WORLD (3D)

Looks like The Avengers crossed with The Lord of the Rings, but also looks better than the first Thor. (November 8)

JACK RYAN: SHADOW RECRUIT

This reboot of the popular Tom Clancy character stars Chris Pine (Captain Kirk) in this Bourne-esque first movie trailer. Fans of the series have their fingers crossed that it honors the spirit of Clancy.

Back in 1987, the entire universe was stunned by the public disclosure of RoboCop, or as some know it, The Man Who Be a Robotized Cop Starring Peter Weller. That 1990s powerhouse of cinema achievement and fusion of movie genres would be followed by multiple film sequels, TV series, comic books, and even video games. Each attempt to reignite the magic of the first film struck audiences like another wound to the mighty but fallen RoboCop.

The year is now 2013. The ghosts of failed RoboCop sequels have been summoned. There is to be a new fusion of man and machine. A new addition to law enforcement’s virtual arsenal. A new RoboCop. Also, there will be a new ED – 209. Both are to be featured in the new movie with new origins.

To help usher in the next-gen, modern-day Frankenstein, we have the combined credibility of Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, and one Michael Keaton. Keaton is, of course, intimately familiar with acting while masked by a famous icon of fiction.

Originally, RoboCop fought criminals, corruption, bureaucracy, toxic-waste monsters, and the mean streets of Detroit. He even used stairs against a giant killer whale-looking co-worker. But this new Robocop faces a much tougher enemy: the footsteps of history.

Certainly, the legacy of RoboCop, and all that it entails, could easily fell the most well-meaning remake. And thus, this new RoboCop’s mission prime directives are clear.

Serve the public trust by wearing the metal mantle

Protect the innocent by projecting the legacy of RoboCop

Uphold the law, the law of the urban jungle

And of course…

*CLASSIFIED*

Here is the trailer:

Only 2014 will reveal the true nature and hidden directive of this new RoboCop movie, but even dead or alive, we will never forget the enduring icon that is RoboCop.

Dead or Alive, Here is the New RoboCop Movie
