As would-be blockbuster after would-be blockbuster continues to try to tackle the summer, we once again must turn a wry eye upon the only decent Superman made since, well, CDs were invented, Man of Steel.

Although it may come as shock to some, How It Should of Ended has been around since before we were subjected to Superman Returns.  And one of their earliest reimagined the original Superman to near perfection.  Well it is all come full circle now with How Man of Steel Should Have Ended.

Unsurprisingly, the somewhat controversial ending for Superman Reboots Man of Steel is reimagined a little more in line with Superman conventions, or at least How It Should Have Ended Superman conventions.

Superman Outthinks Zod in How Man of Steel Should Have Ended

Man of Steel reality check. Any good on-screen comic book character’s ultimate fate is being featured as part of one great big crossover. It was true for Frankenstein way back in 1943’s Frankenstein Meets the Wolf Man, it was more recently true for Iron Man in Marvel’s The Avengers and, thanks to Injustice: Gods Among Us for the Xbox 360 and a certain clueless gamer, it’s once again true for Superman, General Zod, and a host of DC Comics heroes and villains.

On today’s Clueless Gamer (from Team Coco), Conan O’Brien and his admittedly unpracticed video gaming take repeated stabs at the DC Comics fighting game. During play, Conan bat dances for Wonder Woman, laughs off the suggestion that Aquaman might be almost as powerful as Superman, and draws comparisons between Superman’s typical exotic recreations and Michael Jackson’s.

Now prepare thyself to watch General Zod ascend to the papacy, and be on the lookout for the new Conan O’Brien and Bruce Timm co-creation.

Clueless Gamer Conan O’Brien Plays DC’s New ‘Injustice: Gods Among Us’

People of Earth, Man of Steel is all set to steal away your summer dollars. I have seen it, and before I raise one word against Zach Snyder’s latest visual triumph, it is important to have some perspective.  Having the right baseline is the best way to experience a movie of this size.  Sure, we could just watch the recent Green Lantern, and count ourselves lucky that Warner Bros. went in a different direction for Man of Steel, but why would we punish ourselves so?  Especially when it is so much easier, funnier, and less painful to take in the Screen Junkies four-minute sardonic Honest Trailer of Superman IV: The Quest for Peace.

Fair warning: snippets of ’80s *ahem* classics such as Breakin’ 2 Electric Boogaloo, Predator, and Spaceballs, do this important examination of everything that is, was and will be the 1987 big-screen version of Superman.  The dorky duality of the 1987 Superman and Clark Kent is on full display, as is the film’s indulgence in making bratty kids focal points of the plot.

And then there is Nuclear Man.  For context, Nuclear Man is jealous of everyone in Batman & Robin, everyone.  Then there are Superman’s hitherto-unrevealed powers like “rebuilding the Great Wall of China with his eyes and lowering people with his mind.” Of course, Superman IV does hold a few things over Man of Steel including “terrible blue screen,” “really, really terrible blue screen,” and the same flying shot “over and over and over again.”

As Superman must acknowledge his birth on Krypton, so must we acknowledge that Superman IV: The Quest for Peace is still alive in a 1987 time capsule. Oh, how Superman (and Warner Bros.) wishes that he could get his 19 years back.

Get Ready for Man of Steel with Honest Superman IV Trailer

With the release of Man of Steel next month, comic fans will be treated to the newest celluloid depiction of Superman’s famously titled lair, The Fortress of Solitude. In the preview trailers, we’ve gotten glimpses of the Last Son of Krypton’s arctic hideout. It’s the ultimate fantasy location where you can get away from the world and plot your battles against pesky super villains—which for some reason we can all relate to, but perhaps not with the same stakes involved.

Note to Spider-Man: a house in the suburbs is not a proper superhero lair. Please get back to us when you’ve created some kind of space-time warping cocoon that’s orbiting the solar system.

Here are our top 10 favorite superhero bases, secret lairs or hideouts:

10. Justice League Satellite

Looking like something out of 2001: A Space Odyssey, the Satellite actually has had two incarnations, but in both, the Justice League members can teleport into and out of their base. Awww, yeah…

9. Titans Tower

This home to DC’s Titans has undergone various incarnations through the years, but the fact that it is always literally shaped like a “T” is pure awesome.

8. Oa

Not just a headquarters, but an entire planet, Oa serves as the headquarters of the Green Lanterns. Actually it’s the headquarters of the Guardians of the Universe who are blue people who lead the Green Lanterns. Yes, that is confusing.

7. The Tower of Fate

In the grand tradition of heroic doctors with cool hideouts, The Tower of Fate is magical, has no doors or windows, and is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. Dr. Fate’s lair gets it right.

6. X-Mansion

This is where the X-Men and superhero mutants train and hang out with Professor X in New York state. Continues the grand tradition of cool mansions that double as cool hideouts in comic books.

5. Hall of Justice

Where the Super Friends got together, including the most incredible of superheroes, The Wonder Twins, aka Zan and Jayna. Don’t forget Gleek the monkey. Shudder.

4. S.H.I.E.L.D Helicarrier

Built by Stark Industries and co-designed by Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, this flying fortress serves as a base of operations for S.H.I.E.L.D. and the Avengers. It has undergone many incarnations because it tends to get blown up a lot.

3. Sanctum Sanctorum

Located in New York’s Greenwich Village, Doctor Strange’s magical secret lair has the best name hands-down. When is a movie version going to do it justice? Plus, Spider-Man, please take notes because this is what you need.

2. The Batcave

Located under Bruce Wayne’s gigantic mansion, it’s where Batman keeps all his cool stuff.  It’s the ultimate man cave, except a billionaire’s version. The Batcave also has Alfred the Butler to keep things from getting really messy.

1. Fortress of Solitude

The grandaddy of all superhero lairs is hidden somewhere in the Arctic and for someone like Superman, it might as well be right next door. The Fortress is comforting since it’s basically his original home Krypton ported to Earth environs.
