I have a Kreg pocket hole kit. It's a good brand. This would be a lot better then clamping on a 1by and hoping it's straight.

Kreg makes a good product but only so so results with this. Not because of a quality issue but just the way you have to hold against the edge. It sometimes pops up over the edge and your cut is ruined. Much better than eying it but won't replace a table saw.

Keep in mind this is only 24”. Longer options for longer cross cuts are available. Otherwise decent.
