1/4" is too small for many air tools, most specify a minimum of 3/8" hose to get the flow they need. Impact wrenches in particular will benefit from a 1/2" hose if you can give 'em one.
But 1/4" is fine for filling tires, blowing dust off things, and other miscellany. I have a hose-reel with 100 feet of 1/4" hose that can reach all the way out to the street, and it's super convenient compared to wheeling a compressor around when a tire is low.
