I disagree- no subscription required with Tablo also plug in SSD drive and record programs. No separate unit required like Hdhomerun. Tablo works great with s smart tv or Roku box. Tablo has more functionality.
The current big 3 that are often compared are the Tablo OTA tuners (2 or 4 tuner models are available), the TiVo Roamio OTA (4 tuners), and the HDHomeRun (2 or 4 tuner models available, but can work with multiple HDHomeRun models on the same network for further tuner expansion) combined with Plex.
Tablo and TiVo are best for the less technical folks while HDHomeRun/Plex is more power user oriented.
I have a 1 TB Tivo Bolt and 3 Tivo Minis all attached to a rooftop antenna. I get a perfect signal from OTA signal (no pixelation during action scenes like I had with Dish and TWC) and can record tons of programming plus I have integrated Netflix, Hulu, and a number of other services I don't use. I can record 4 programs at the same time and I can also use the DVR through the minis in the other rooms of my house.
I can't honestly see what only 64 GB of storage would do for me. To me this is a half hearted attempt to doing it right. I gladly pay for the guide that allows me to schedule a recording well in advance and gives me an integrated search. I can also watch recorded or live TV from my Tivo on my phone away from the house which is a great feature.
