My Nexus 4 can be traded in for $100, which is fair IMHO.

Terrible deal. You can get a much better value by going to Best Buy to trade in. I tried this for my Lumia 1520 ($100) and iPhone 5s ("recycle free").

Does anyone know whether the trade-in value is ONLY applicable to the purchase of a new iPhone, or just an Apple gift card that can be used for anything?

Credit is towards iPhone or ipad only and must purchase that day (per employee).

Seems fair to me, I just bought an iPhone 5s 32gb for $250.

That's a very good offer actually. It's what they go for on
ebay.
After seller fees, paypal fees and shipping you are left with much less than $200.

I just received my $200 Apple Store Gift Card. They gave me a quote of $200 for my very used iPhone 5 16GB Black Locked to AT&T about 14 days ago. They sent me a box for free and all I did was ship them back just the phone (no accessories) and boom!

I have one of those fabled unlimited data plans so an Apple gift card really does nothing for me... you can only use it towards a new phone on contract. I basically got quotes from all other options out there, trying to find the best deal with the most amount of security. I ended up going with a newer company called Orchard and got a nice $265 for my iPhone 5S. Their prices were higher than everyone else so I was surprised that it took me so much effort to find them. Anyone else check them out before? It's http://www.getorchard.com

It always seems to be a ripoff for these trade in deals. I always find selling on
Ebay
is MUCH more profitable.
