A software update will roll out to remove all ads from existing devices and newly purchased devices will simply ship without any of the ad software installed.<\/p>\n<p>This is the first time that customers that purchased these phones will be able to change their\u00a0lock screen wallpaper. This program launched a couple of years ago after Amazon was successful selling Kindles that included lock screen ads. It&#8217;s grown over the years, expanding to multiple smartphone brands including LG, Moto and Nokia.<\/p>\n<p>Amazon is making this shift in order to keep up with technology on newer phones, specifically facial recognition and fingerprint scanning when unlocking phones. This will come at a small cost to the consumer though. <span class=\"highlight-yellow\">Amazon will be <strong>raising prices on all Prime Exclusive models by $20<\/strong> in order to compensate the loss of ads.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Customers still won&#8217;t be able to erase Amazon installed apps either such as Prime Music or Prime Video, even if you cancel your Prime subscription. However, the significant discounts on the phones should make up for the apps taking up space on the phone.
