Launching in the 3.5 PlayStation software update this week, Sony PlayStation 4 owners will be able to stream video games\u00a0from their gaming console to a Windows or Mac computer. Already available on the Xbox One (limited to Windows 10), the functionality can be quite useful when the television hooked up to the gaming console is already in use, someone watching Netflix perhaps.<\/p>\n

Of course, you will need a PC running Windows\u00a08.1 or Windows 10. If you have a Mac, you will need to be running either OS X\u00a010.10 or\u00a0OS X\u00a010.11. Resolution is set at 540p by default, but you will be able to increase that to 720p if\u00a0your network can handle it. There’s also a 360p streaming option\u00a0as well.<\/p>\n

Framerate is set as 30fps as the standard, but it can be increased to 60fps in the settings.\u00a0To play on your computer, you will need to hook up your Dualshock controller to your PC \/ Mac\u00a0with a\u00a0USB cable. You will also need to install the “Remote Play Installer” software on your computer. It will be located here<\/a> once the 3.5 update actually goes live.<\/p>\n

Other options in the 3.5 PlayStation update include the ability to set your profile to appear offline when you are online playing games, the ability to set notifications when a specific friend comes online, the ability to schedule planned events that friends can join and a “Play Together” feature that lets friends join each other in specific games (or start a new game entirely.)<\/p>\n
