<p>Back in the 1990s, <a href="https://click.linksynergy.com/fs-bin/click?id=isIkAyUyNbM&amp;offerid=116033.10000008&amp;type=3&amp;subid=0" target="_blank">LEGO</a> was the struggling toy brick company that adults looked back on nostalgically, but couldn&#8217;t make a buck.</p>
<p>Until 1999, when LEGO started to license the brick out of it.</p>
<p>Then things started rocking, and 15 years later, LEGO has produced a<a href="https://www.wired.com/2014/02/infoporn-legos/" target="_blank"> dizzying array of licensed sets</a> from a number of A-list pop culture properties including Star Wars (one of the first), Harry Potter, Batman, The Lord of the Rings,  The Hobbit, The Simpsons and even Back to the Future. The list goes on.</p>
<p>This year saw the introduction of <a href="https://bensbargains.net/link_redirect/?merchant_id=1360&amp;coupon_remote_id=http%3A%2F%2Fshop.lego.com%2Fen-US%2FTHE-LEGO-MOVIE-ByTheme%20" target="_blank">The LEGO Movie</a> licensed sets, which was kind of like, <em>whoa, dude, it&#8217;s like turning in on itself!</em></p>
<p>But LEGO is not all about the licensed toys. There&#8217;s still the classic and long-running LEGO City, LEGO Space, LEGO Castle and LEGO Technic themes, as well as more recent popular themes like LEGO Architecture, LEGO Creator, LEGO Mindstorms, LEGO Ninjago, LEGO Legends of Chima and the girl-friendly LEGO Friends. <a href="https://lego.gizmodo.com/avast-here-be-the-2015-lego-pirates-sets-1643517126" target="_blank">LEGO Pirates</a> are also coming back in 2015 after a 6-year hiatus.</p>
<p>There&#8217;s even <a href="https://ideas.lego.com/" target="_blank">LEGO Ideas</a> (formerly known as CUUSOO) which is a program that produces fan-submitted ideas through a Kickstarter-like process. That&#8217;s how the LEGO Minecraft and Back to the Future sets were born.</p>
<p>We are truly now in the Golden Age of LEGO, and everything is awesome! Let&#8217;s take a look at 20 incredibly awesome official LEGO sets from the past 10 years. (Hey, we had to limit this somehow. Otherwise, this list would be huge!)</p>
<p>Special thanks to <a href="https://brickset.com/" target="_blank">Brickset</a> for their awesome LEGO site and passionate users!</p>

<h3>3. LEGO Creator Taj Mahal (10189)</h3>

<div style="margin-top: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px;" class="sharethis-inline-share-buttons" ></div><p>Most great deals don&#8217;t last that long on Ben&#8217;s Bargains. That&#8217;s why signing up for Deal Alerts is your best bet (and <a href="https://bensbargains.net/thecheckout/bens-bytes/why-the-driver-uses-deal-alerts/">The Driver</a> recommends them).</p>
<p>Here are 10 deals of the week (Sept. 7 to Sept. 13) that you really liked or we thought were pretty good&#8230; and even better, are actually still valid, but not for long:</p>
<h3>1) Smartphone Years — Is That Like Dog Years?</h3>
<p>Earlier this week, Apple introduced the cheaper iPhone 5C for $99, putting it squarely in the mid-range of Apple&#8217;s iPhone price points. As a result, the 2-year-old iPhone 4S (ancient by phone standards) was sent down the pecking order. That means the <a href="https://bensbargains.net/deal/apple-iphone-5c-99-at-apple-store-326693/">iPhone 4S is now free on a 2-year contract</a>. Plus, it can run iOS 7 when the new system rolls out on September 18th.</p>
<p>Expiration: Next September.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://bensbargains.net/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/2013_iphone_lineup.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9146" alt="2013_iphone_lineup deals of the week" src="https://bensbargains.net/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/2013_iphone_lineup.jpg" loading="lazy" width="789" height="492" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/2013_iphone_lineup.jpg 789w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/2013_iphone_lineup-300x187.jpg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 789px) 100vw, 789px" /></a></p>
<h3>2) Get Smarter for Freer</h3>
<p>Amazon currently has <a href="https://bensbargains.net/deal/boundless-college-level-introductory-textbooks-0-at-326541/">several Boundless digital textbooks available as free Kindle downloads</a>. You can read them on a Kindle or any device with a Kindle app (i.e. PC, Mac, Android or iOS). The Boundless slogan is, &#8220;Better than  your assigned textbook.&#8221; It&#8217;s at least freer.</p>
<p>Expiration: Limited time.</p>
<h3>3) Be That Guy</h3>
<p>A lot of <a href="https://bensbargains.net/merchants/oakley-vault-coupons-1257/">Oakley shades are on sale</a> right now at the Oakley Vault for prices far lower than what you&#8217;d find at 6pm or Amazon, like these <a href="https://oakleyvault.com/product/limited-edition-gp-75-frogskins/24-335">Limited Edition Oakley GP-75 Frogskins</a> <em>(below)</em> for $70 shipped (about $60 less than other sellers).</p>
<p>If you don&#8217;t want to be that guy, Puma&#8217;s got <a href="https://bensbargains.net/deal/up-to-50-off-select-items-extra-40-off-at-puma-327000/">40% off the entire site</a> with a coupon code.</p>
<p>Expiration: Limited time.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://bensbargains.net/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Oakley-Frogskins.jpeg"><img decoding="async" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-9179" alt="Oakley-Frogskins deals of the week" src="https://bensbargains.net/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Oakley-Frogskins.jpeg" loading="lazy" width="678" height="316" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Oakley-Frogskins.jpeg 678w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/Oakley-Frogskins-300x139.jpeg 300w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 678px) 100vw, 678px" /></a></p>
<h3>4) Summer Is Not Over&#8230; Technically</h3>
<p>eBay&#8217;s Fashion Vault is throwing a <a href="https://bensbargains.net/deal/up-to-70-off-select-home-amp-garden-items-free-shipping-at-ebay-326500/">Summer Savings Finale</a> with discounts of up to 70% off over 700 home and garden items.  Well-known sellers like Kitchenaid, Cooking.com, Buydig and Wayfair are offering prices lower than what you&#8217;ll see at Amazon.</p>
<p>Speaking of home products, you can get <a href="https://bensbargains.net/deal/20-off-select-items-at-best-buy-327062/">20% off small appliances and other select home items</a> at Best Buy with a coupon code.</p>
<p>Expiration: 9/18.</p>
<h3>5) Free (Good) Software</h3>
<p>Choose from one or more of <a href="https://bensbargains.net/deal/ashampoo-software-free-at-ashampoo-com-326410/">Ashampoo&#8217;s five software suites for free</a>: Burning Studio 2012, Photo Commander 9, Snap 5, SlideshowStudio 2012 and WinOptimizer 2012 (5 downloads max). Normally $50, Burning Studio 12 got an <a href="https://www.pcworld.com/article/2014038/review-ashampoo-burning-studio-12-is-a-powerful-burning-and-multimedia-suite.html">excellent review</a> from PC World.</p>
<p>Expiration: Limited time.</p>
<h3><a href="https://bensbargains.net/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/The_Hobbit_Extended.jpg"><img decoding="async" class="alignright size-medium wp-image-9181" alt="The_Hobbit_Extended" src="https://bensbargains.net/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/The_Hobbit_Extended-237x300.jpg" loading="lazy" width="237" height="300" srcset="https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/The_Hobbit_Extended-237x300.jpg 237w, https://bensbargains.com/thecheckout/wp-content/uploads/2013/09/The_Hobbit_Extended.jpg 680w" sizes="auto, (max-width: 237px) 100vw, 237px" /></a>6) Proof that Longer is Cheaper</h3>
<p>Warner Bros. Shop is currently taking <a href="https://bensbargains.net/deal/up-to-70-off-blu-rays-extra-5-off-25-at-327283/">up to 70% off Blu-ray and DVD sets</a>. With a $5 off $25 code and free shipping on orders over $25, you can find some good prices that are less than Amazon&#8217;s, like the <a href="https://www.wbshop.com/category/wbshop_brands/the+hobbit-+an+unexpected+journey/blu-ray+%26+dvd.do?promo=toutHOBBITEXTENDEDHEhome">Hobbit: Extended Edition Blu-ray</a> <em>(right)</em> for $22 shipped ($29 at Amazon).</p>
<p>That&#8217;s right, an <em>Extended</em> Edition of <em>The Hobbit</em> (actually 13 more minutes, but still).</p>
<p>Expiration: 9/16.</p>
<h3>7) Free Redbox Rental, Yay!</h3>
<p>This one pops up from time to time, but you can&#8217;t beat a <a href="https://bensbargains.net/deal/dvd-movie-rental-free-at-redbox-327202/">free DVD for one night</a> or 30 cents for a Blu-ray.</p>
<p>Expiration: Limited time.</p>
<h3>8) Rare Apple Discount</h3>
<p>For two days at Best Buy, you can pick up a <a href="https://bensbargains.net/deal/apple-macbook-air-11-6-4th-gen-core-i5-notebook-900-at-best-buy-327209/">2013 Macbook Air 2013 in different sizes and flavors for $50 to $100 off </a>than what you&#8217;ll find anywhere else. This is the best price you&#8217;ll see until Black Friday, and it&#8217;s unlikely that it&#8217;ll go any lower even then.</p>
<p>Expiration: 9/14.</p>
<h3>9) 50% off is Sweet</h3>
<p>Groupon&#8217;s got a <a href="https://bensbargains.net/deal/-40-derailed-com-credit-for-20-at-groupon-327076/">$40 online credit at Derailed.com for $20</a>. Derailed is an offshoot of Sierra Trading post and sells discount-priced outdoor gear and apparel. <p><a href="https://bensbargains.net/thecheckout/awesomeness/allow-star-trek-legos-to-take-you-into-darkness/">Three months ago</a>, we shared the <em>Star Trek Into Darkness</em> frame-by-frame trailer recreation made from LEGOs. This LEGO version of <em>The Hobbit</em> sequel&#8217;s teaser trailer may top it.</p>
<p>To create their amazing LEGO mini-movies, brothers Kevin and Brian Ulrich use real <a href="https://shop.lego.com/en-US/The-Lord-of-the-Rings-ByTheme">Lord of the Rings</a> and <a href="https://shop.lego.com/en-US/The-Hobbit-ByTheme">Hobbit LEGOs</a>, a clay surface and stop-motion animation software called <a href="https://www.dragonframe.com/">Dragonframe</a>. Dragonframe is the same software used in recent animated movies <em>Paranorman</em> and <em>Frankenweenie</em>.</p>
<p>Their <a href="https://www.youtube.com/user/BrotherhoodWorkshop/videos">YouTube channel</a> features other LEGO videos and even counts some artists from Peter Jackson&#8217;s own special effects company, Weta Workshop, among its fans.</p>

<p>And here&#8217;s a side-by-side comparison with the actual teaser trailer of <em>The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug</em>:</p>
