The pricing on today's flat screens is nothing short of amazing, when compared to just a few short years ago. (I remember the time we bought our very first LCD computer monitor when they first hit the shelves - at what was "Circuit City" at the time. It was very pedestrian by today's standards, but still ran us nearly $1k. A splurge and admittedly one of my less wise purchases, in hindsight, but I thought it was the bees knees at the time...)
Sharp was purchased by Hisense five years ago. If you buy this you are supporting a Chinese state-owned company. Not a private company in China, the Chinese government.
Foxconn has a majority stake in Sharp.
Hisense (China based) has a manufacturing license for TV's in some markets.
The manufacturing world is ever changing.

you never know what you're gonna get until you you do a teardown.
Many years ago I bought a Samsung monitor. Come to find out the actual LCD panel was made my Hannspree/HannStar.
