You can get a 3rd party battery. Of course, having other Ryobi tools can't hurt either :)

Yeah, you're not buying a battery just for this though. You are either buying this because you already live in the Ryobi ecosystem or you are expecting to do that and will pick up free batteries in a combo tool deal somewhere along the line.

Strange comments about battery expense when Ryobi is one of the cheapest major brand batteries in the business, $80 for a two pack of 4Ah. Normally you'd just get a charger with a different tool it's bundled with but IIRC you can pick up a charger on
ebay
for around $20-$30.

It is an investment but then there are over 100 tools to choose from, with most of the popular ones being available as a bare tool.
