Awesome laptop. Has a neat setting where it powers on when you open the lid. (from shutdown, not sleep).

OK so I helped a neighbour find the right computer for his kiddos:

For the about to go to college daughter, I was able to find the Flex 5 with the 4700U, 512 GB SSD and 16GB RAM, the 4 year warranty and 3 year accidental for $896.86 incl tax at Costco.
For the two that are still in high school, he went with the 4500U with 256GB SSD like you see in this deal, BUT critically with the 16GB RAM. He took advantage of the $100 credit for new
    Amazon
credit card sign ups to get it below I think $500.

    Both I consider great bargains.

On speed they're both plenty fast enough for the vast majority of users. The construction is solid - plastic but solid - reminded me of the old Dell E6500 - solid workhorse - definitely a little bulky.

So two questions are commonly asked - display and display output:

The display is definitely dim - I use a macbook pro 2019 at work and that's light years ahead. In a normal indoor situation it's fine, but it's not going to give you that vibrant screen bursting with colour. It's good enough though except if you work in a very / over lit environment.

On display output - this is an AMD laptop and the documentation noted the USB-C output was not Thunderbolt but I wanted to try anyway. Using my Hec-Too 4.5m cable I got off
    Amazon
, it works fine on the macbook at 60Hz to my 4k Sony TV no problem. But no signal at all from the Lenovos.

HOWEVER, it turns out to be a moot point - the documentation was incorrect - you can output 4k@60Hz through the HDMI. Originally it autodetected for some reason at 59Hz, but I was able to change it to 60Hz.

If you're looking for an affordable, portable, capable home 2 in 1, that can also do some heavy lifting and work nicely with a 4k monitor, I think this is a good choice, unless your home is super bright indoors. Just don't get the 8Gb RAM version - go for 16GB. The 4500U lower CPU is fine I think for most, the SSD can be upgraded, but the RAM can't.
