What's with all these mirror-less cameras all of a sudden?

The focusing systems and the screens have improved significantly which leads to some advantages over DSLRs. However some of the biggest advantages come down to size and that image stabilization tends to be in the body on mirrorless cameras vs. within the lens on most DSLRs - which means paying for that stabilization over and over each time you buy a new lens.

There are pros and cons to each - but for your non-professional user I think the trend is certainly towards mirrorless because it tends to be more comfortable and familiar to those who spend much of their time taking photos on their smartphones etc. since the touchscreen interfaces and method of looking at an image on a screen to frame the shot is intuitive.

Mirrorless also tends to have advantages for video, because unlike a DSLR there is no mirror in the way of the sensor - so if you are shooting video a lot, having a optical viewfinder which relies upon a mirror is of no advantage and adds bulk and weight without contributing anything.

Granted if you are into fast-action or sports photography, then a DSLR is probably the way to go. But I tend to think mirrorless is the future and ultimately will become the standard. Cameras may continue to have viewfinders but they will increasingly be based upon digital screens rather than mirrors.

Might be worth waiting for the Fujifilm x-A3 to go back on sale. It's been popping up on Ben's recently new for $275 and it has similar specs, includes the extra lens, and is not refurbished.

Anyone used these? Looks like a good deal, and been looking for a compact camera... but looks like low light performance sucks, which would be a dealbreaker.

I thought about the Fuji, but it was supposed to be pretty poor in the AF dept. Looks like this one is kinda lame for video, pick your poison. Seems like my old Olympus M4/3 is still pretty relevant and no need to switch just yet, although I admit the video on it isn't the best, either.

If you don't like the one you received ( refurb condition may vary)- if not like new -make sure return in 1 month. After that they will repair the one you have no swap.
Normally if not like new -they most likely been abused for a while.
