I have one and it works well. Especially useful if you just replaced any outlets so you can test before you plug in.

Have a similar one. Used it to test the receptacles in a friends office. All OK until the last one. Hot neutral. Their electrical contractor got there very fast and rewired it.

I've never tested a GCFI outlet because all mine have a test button on them, but these are invaluable for checking that ground and neutral are not crossed/joined (and that there is power at the outlet). I suppose if you have a GCFI breaker these could be useful.
