I recently switched battery powered lawn gear, including self-propelled mower, edger and weed whacker. So far, no regrets. I have three interchangeable batteries with a stand-alone rapid charger. As one cell runs down the other is ready. I have about 1/4 acre of lawn surface. It's so much better than dealing with petrol combustion engines.
I never have problems with the engines on my mowers: Honda, Suzuki, B&S. Problems are with the SP drive, control cables, belts or blade clutch. And, I never have carb problems from the lousy gas used these days.
^ Me either, have found gas mowers very easy to use and reliable, BUT I do wonder if some of the newer foreign brands will last as long, for example LCT or Zongshen, but most of theirs up through a few hundred cc displacement are Honda clones so if you need parts, odds are you're doing an upgrade with a Honda part while doing the repair.
Heck even Cub Cadet is putting Zongshen in some of their equipment these days.
Smaller, modern 2 cycle engines are where I find the most problems once they get some hours on them, with the lower volatility summer gas, and especially less than fresh E10 fuel.
