I used PLEX for a lot time with the basic version. Upgraded to a lifetime sub a while back and do not regret it.

Plex is awesome. My NAS killer is a used Intel Xeon server with 6 removable SATA bays ($140 on fleabay) running OpenMediaVault and Plex. Love it!

That might be correct but the wrong way to look at things. I personally take the lifetime price / monthly cost and wager if I think I'll get my payback before **** hits the fan. So far I'm WAY ahead on the Plex Pass Subscription! I did the same calculations when buying a used Tivo's with lifetime. I'm way ahead on that lifetime subscription too.
