I clean a house once a week for a family friend who can't do it herself and she has a 3 refurbs (I picked out for her) an older ball/upright, a new upright and a cordless (I think a V6 or V7). The older ball/upright is rad for carpet, the newer upright is great for hardwood/tile and the cordless is awesome for ceiling corners, baseboards and hard to reach areas. Zero issues so far (knock on wood) except for having to replace the ball/upright hose, which breaks down every 3-5 years and is about $20 to replace.
Check out tineco branded stick vacs on I was skeptical, ended up getting the A11 model.... Best cordless vac I've ever owned. On super vac mode... It sucks up area rugs - it's that powerful. No more issues with sand (we live in FL) or kitty litter. 2 batteries and an awesome compact charging station that holds the vac power head. It's a no brainer.
