Android tablets are pretty much cr*p as a media consumption device. Most apps are pretty crummy on the tablet form factor. They work fine on a phone just not optimized for a tablet.
I have never owned a Samsung tablet but the ones I have owned aren't great (Acer, one other underwhelming one I can't remember).
Not an Apple fanboy - Samsung phones, Windows PCs.
I have to agree about the iPad over Samsung tablet. I've always had android phones and we splurged on a top of the line (then) Tab and it worked ok for a little bit but before long it was just plain slow. Could play movies and what not, but switching programs or web browsing it is practically unusable, even with high grade hardware. Meanwhile an iPad from 5 years ago still can perform well enough to be useful. After using an iPad for work picked one of the 9.7 with 128Gb over the weekend for the $330 deal and it just plains works. I still don't buy into all things Apple but in tablets there's a reason they're on top.

The Apple iPad (2018) has 2GB of RAM. This has more.
Save your money and go Android.

It all depends on what you intend on using a tablet. For me, it's an Android Tablet like this one.
