I think I read somewhere that dips are really hard on your elbows and most personal trainers don't recommend this exercise anymore. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
The great thing about dips is that you can hit triceps and pecs at the same time. The part is potentially tennis elbow. Trust me, it hurts like hell, and sometimes the only relief is a cortisone shot. As some have suggested, you can use bands to assist. It's also possible to do dips in a sort of seated position, where you're really just lifting your **** off the ground. Depending upon your age, it's better to trade resistance for number of reps. It varies with age. Older people's muscles can often write checks that their joints can't cash.
