I'm considering the 1-year plan as a backup. Are all taxes, regulatory fees, and line charges included in the $50? If the phone is not used for 6 months, will service be shut down for inactivity?
I can't recommend FreedomPop as a provider. From what I've experienced and read basically the same experiences online, they bait and switch you constantly. Also, random fees pop up that you have to talk to customer support about. Customer support is also abysmal. I can, however, tell you that I use Red Pocket. They recently ran a deal on for $220 for a year of service. That includes unlimited talk, unlimited text, and unlimited data with 5GB of that data being LTE on the ATT network. The deal is currently 240, but it wasn't the first time I saw the price reduced to 220. Even at 240, it's an EXCELLENT deal. I've been running with Red Pocket for almost 3 weeks now so I can't give a full recommendation, but I see no differences between when I was an ATT customer. I also already dealt with their customer support, and they were courteous and informed.

I'm thinking of switching to Red Pocket but want to keep my Google Voice number. Do you know if Google Voice call forwarding and voicemail work with the service? I work in basements with no signal, so a virtual line helps with notifications during the day.
My FreedomPop phone uses voice over IP. As long as I have a WiFi connection, calls and text really are free up to the monthly allotment. If I use cell towers for data, then I have to buy data from Freedom Pop when I exceed the monthly free data allotment.

Yeah, Red Pocket won't interfere at all with Google Voice. I use Google Voice as well. Works just fine.
