I do HVAC, Nest thermostats are the worst ever built. If you want a technician in your home buy Nest. I remove about 20 tstats over the summer. nest will cause an issue where intermittent problems will be hard to find if your tech is inexperianced.
I learned to use my existing thermostat and saved hundreds of dollars. This only works when you live alone or put a lock on the thermostat when you aren't around.
Weird, I've had mine since November & changing the temp remotely works, my LG TV can change the temp & mode, my voice can change it via Google Home, and the girlfriend & dog don't interfere with it at all. I haven't had a problem with mine. Oh, & Alexa works with it also, but I don't use her that often. Plus having it light up with motion prevents anyone from sneaking up on me!
I never really understood the need for these. Sure an away time zone and an at home time zone are good to conserve fuel, but to need to reprogram it over the web? Maybe once in a blue moon I would need to suspend the "away" temp if I'm staying home unexpectedly, but then why not just walk down the hall and put the thing on "hold"?
^ It's so you can one-up your tech geek friends. I had an older programmable thermostat, worked fine for my needs, then one day it failed. I grabbed the old mechanical one that it replaced, installed it just to have A/C for the time being, and it turns out that it too, works fine for my needs.

And good luck setting the temp remotely.
