Sears isn't what it used to be... If you want quality, buy Hitachi or similar brand...if you want homeowener grade, slightly better than junk, then buy Sears or Harbor Freight which is half the price of Sears and about the same quality.

No. There's utter trash generic brands, then a step up from that is Harbor Freight's cordless drills, then a step up from that is Black & Decker, then a step up from that is Craftsman, Ryobi, and Rigid, with these latter 3 being about the same as Hitachi's low end like a DS18DGL:
Hitachi does make better models, but those are up close to Dewalt and Milwaukee pricing with these two brands seeming to offer more stable product lines while Hitachi has burnt through close to a dozen now-discontinued drill models in recent years.
Although back in the day of NiCd, Craftsman 19.2V had one more cell in them than Ryobi, today their 19.2V line has same # of Li-Ion cells as Ryobi 18V line and Dewalt 18V/20V line.

While I'm not a fan of Craftsman power tools, here are the drill/drivers sold at Harbor Freight: http://www.harborfreight.com/power-tools/cordless-drills.html Two words to describe this group of "tools": "uh" and "no."
