In case you're wondering, this will not work on all laptops. It is compatible on only a few specific Alienware models.

i wonder if the external PCIE is proprietary.

If you dont have an alienware, you can get something like this: http://www.amazon.com/Laptop-External-PCI-E-Graphics-Card/dp/B00Q4VMLF6

but you should probably do your research first, because it requires disassembling your laptop.

I remember years back on the LinusTechTips youtube channel that some company made something similar this but it ran on Thunderbolt, not some proprietary BS.

I wonder if that company got brought out by Alienware....

I have a gaming rig and I really don't get the point here... If you already paid premium for one of those "alienware" computers, I assume the performance is already OK to keep you happy, no? $230 seems like a sizeable chunk of money on top of the price of the platform you already own. Recent model GTX graphics cards (cf. 970) are getting into this range...

I thought most gamers lived in mom's basement where there should be plenty of room for a full size desktop computer.

Yeah i don't understand anyone who seriously plays hardcore on a laptop...

only if your living in the tiniest apartment possible or jumping place to place..

i won't get it.
How can you not fit a full size computer... if anything you can even build itx builds now..
