^ Good question since it isn't programmable and any original installation would come with a basic thermostat and if it's the old school mechanical type, it's not subject to power surges and will never wear out. I suppose on that angle, if you already had a digital one and a power surge or age made it wear out then you'd need a new one. Yay for progress!
^ I think the Honeywell round look fine, at least in comparison to this one.
Programming can be harder on the ones that try to minimize the # of buttons, if you don't have the instructions, but some have separate buttons for each feature and are labeled so they're easy to program.
