^ You can refuse to pay that fee if you legitimately told them "I want my cam sensor replaced" instead of "it's doing xyz fix whatever." At some shops you HAVE to question their bill because they'll try to make it absurdly high.

This does not work with all OBDII compliant vehicles '96 or newer. It works with CAN protocol OBDII vehicles which are predominantly mid-200(n) to present.

As most of you know, this item requires an app to work -- either Torque, Carista, etc. None of these can turn off your "Check Engine Light." However, Carista engineers claim they're working on a solution for that. Stay tuned.

Why?...just go to Autozone, they loan them for FREE, or have them read the codes and print out all for FREE. Just have to be patience, listen to the sale guy telling you it probably oxygen sensor...in bank 1 or 2 or 3 need to be replaces.

Not true. I have been trying various Android apps. I have found a few that will turn it off. Some require the paid "Pro" version. Others don't care. OBD Car Doctor free for example.

Turning the light off is no big deal. If the fault still exists the light will come back on when the tests are performed.

If a code scanner costs upwards of $100 or more then I tend to agree, but for $4, "IF" it supports your vehicle, it can be worthwhile to know ahead of time what is wrong, not have to wait in line at Autozone, be able to research the solution to the code and shop around for the best priced fix if parts are needed without a trip out which uses your gas and time.

In some cases you might go to Autozone, get a code read, decide to buy some part that seems like it may be the problem but trouble codes aren't always that straight forward. A bad reading from a sensor just means it is out of range for how it should be if everything else is working optimally, may be caused by a fault somewhere else.

If you buy the sensor and install it and the problem isn't fixed then you wasted the money as well as the time and gas. Most places won't take back a part after it's installed. In some cases this dongle would also show you the readings from the new sensor versus the old one for comparison. You're not going to get the guy at autozone to do that, and he might not even be able to with the minimalistic scanner they use.
