^ Most mice are only touch with a small # of mechanical switches for left/right/middle/etc. This instead uses a top surface embedded low granularity capacitive touchscreen matrix.
You can't use it like a trackpad but it's enough for Windows Gestures and of course normal left/right clicking without the seams around the buttons to get gunk in and no clicking noise. On the other hand you may have to retrain your fingers on how much they move around to prevent unintended clicking.
IMO they should've went all the way and made it capable of being a trackpad too but then I doubt it would be down around $18.
