This new EFAX series from WD has gotten some awful reviews when used in NAS or RAID service.
What you want is something from the 'new' EFRX Red Plus (not Pro) line of drives, not anything from the EFAX series (as this is).
The 'new' Red Plus line is in fact the old RED EFRX line, still as great as it ever was - quiet, cool, reliable, easily handles 24/7 NAS and RAID duty.
I have no idea what WD was thinking releasing this downgraded product.
What's wrong with SMR? Lowers the cost per GB, results in fewer platters spinning for same capacity (except odd GB models that use only half of one of the platters) so lower heat, wear, noise, power consumption and faster spinup time, all else equal.
The primary gripe with them is slow write speeds, but for what I use mechanical HDDs for it makes little difference. Use an SSD when speed matters.
I had all my seagates fail on me 3 years ago right after warranty so moved to WD. Was very happy with it. Had 6 of them and none failed so far so got some more as needed more space. New ones are pice of ****! Slower then thumb drive. Takes 6 or more times longer to copy big files then old drives. Big letdown from WD. Need to move to another brand. Have 4 of POS which I can't return as past 30 day. Toshiba or back to seagate..., guess need to research better choice.
