^ Not necessarily, I only drink or cook with the cold water so the hot doesn't need filtered. I got into that habit after seeing all the sediment that comes out of a tanked water heater when it's drained. Granted most of it is minerals from the hard water here.

On the other hand, if there's fracking going on near you, or other evidence of a contaminated water supply, then I'd want all the water filtered with a higher capacity filter, and put it on the incoming supply line before the hot water heater, and move somewhere else as soon as possible. :)
