Better than nothing, but inefficient and costly to operate. Not "Energy Star" compliant. Consumer Reports makes a convincing argument to get this style of cooler banned. They say that this cooler design wastes as much as 70% of it's cooling BTU rating. Ran a Kill-A-Watt with this device for 7 days recently. When compared to a heat pump and conventional window-hung compressor cooler, this machine was constantly pulling way more AMPs for less sustained cooling. Also, I used a laser thermometer on the exterior case and hose. They were HOT! The cooler also had to deal with the heat it was generating inside the room.
